Description: Gordon and Fiona Hamersley have owned one of Boston's most popular restaurants for 20 years. Hamersley's Bistro serves contemporary, full-flavored French/Mediterranean food in a relaxed environment. Located in the fashionable South End, Hamersley's is adjacent to the Boston Center for the Arts and its' affiliated theaters and galleries. The historic brick building, which originally housed a piano factory, has been transformed into one of Boston's most comfortable dining atmospheres. The dining room has butter yellow walls, exposed beams and a view of the open kitchen so diners can watch the chefs work in their brightly colored baseball caps. There is also a cozy bar, where neighborhood regulars gather for food and drinks, as well as a large patio for casual summer dining.

We had not been back at Gordon's restaurant for some 10 years. So we found ourselves in the South End the other evening and went to reacquaint ourselves with his food. It was a rather quite night and there were plenty of available tables. We were comfortably seated right next to the restroom entrances. But it was comfortable. Skipping appetizers... More

Unfortunately we were not so impressed by the food... It was good but not exceptional. The halibut was undercooked and the sides with the arctic char were overly citrusy. We loved the friendliness and attentiveness of the servers and hostesses. The average age of most diners were in the 50s. Located in a great area of town and next to... More

The last time I was at Hamersley's was 20 years ago and I still had good memories - and they were refreshed now even better. I started with the seared Foie Gras with Black Mission Fig and Smoked Foie Gras Butter - a poem of a dish even though the portion was a little on the small side. Then followed... More

No kidding. Gordon Hamersley, who can be found on the line in his South End eatery (he usually wears a Red Sox cap), turns out delicious meals time and time again. Bravo!

We had just landed in Boston after a 6 hour flight and were famished. We were staying a short walk from Hamersley's and decided to walk over even though they were showing completely booked on Open Table. The delightful hostesses seated us immediately in the bright and lively dining room. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is... More

Had a great evening here. The ambiance is wonderful - a cavernous room with high ceilings and exposed beams. Tablecloths and carpet soak up some sound so you can hear the people at your table with ease. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was delicious - especially recommend the Seared Polenta with creamy salt Cod , spring veg and marcona... More

A busy, lively restaurant. Service was excellent and friendly. The food was very good. The Chickpea Cake was delicious. The vegetarian meal was very good. I had the peppered beef tenderloin which was cooked expertly and quite good. The food overall is good, and it is a fun way to spend the evening because the restaurant feels full of energy.... More

Let’s cut to the chase…if I had to rate the meal at Hamersley’s Bistro on a scale of 1-10, it would easily garner a perfect 10. What an outstanding restaurant. With Chef Gordon Hamersley manning the pass, I knew it would be great, but it was even better than that. The space, the service, the pace, the food, the entire... More

If you are looking for a restaurant to have a pleasant evening with someone, this seems to me as a very good choice in Boston. The dining room is elegant and the ambiance is welcoming and warm. You feel good, you can have fun and enjoy yourself in a nice restaurant. However, I would not write that the food was... More
