Description: Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. Be sure to get a reservation well ahead of time. Be sure to get the Saghanaki and Aginares Souvlaki as appetizers! More

My wife and I recently enjoyed an evening meal at this San Francisco hot spot. The food was very good and the atmosphere inviting. I had requested a quiet table which can be hard to find at popular restaurants like this but they did their best and we had a great time. I reserved through open table which was very... More

Went there with a group of about 8. We had made a reservation ahead of time, were called by the restaurant to confirm on the day of and then on arrival they had somehow "lost" our reservation. We were told thy were absolutely full and no chance of being seated. After extended conversation they "found" a table for us and... More

Absolutely excellent food and probably the best Greek/Mediteranean food in San Francisco. Consistently good service and nice decor. The two major downsides are the usually long wait (make reservations if you can) and the incessantly loud noise that I experience here. More

I can honestly say this is possibly the best food I have ever had. Being from NYC we have been spoiled with the numerous restaurant options in and around the city. Kokkari surpassed most of them!!! The service and ambiance were excellent and very attentive. We started with the Baked Feta and a special that had crab, sweet corn, and... More

Exceeded expectations and we cannot wait to revisit. The waiter was exceedingly professional & friendly with great knowledge of the food, wine and restaurant. Then came the actual food. Stunningly simple but exquisite in taste... How food should be. The lamb grill was so tender, the most anywhere & the halibut & lentils a rare treat. The starting dips and... More

I dined at Kokkari Estiatorio last week, and I must say I was disappointed. From the age-biased greeting at the reception desk to the partially-cooked quail that had to be returned to the kitchen for its finishing touches, I would be hard pressed to return to this restaurant. The staff barely smiled, and the presentation of the meal was stiff...hardly... More

Huge shout out to Brett at the bar who took extra good care of me and my friend who was celebrating a "big" birthday. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the US both for atmosphere, staff and lets not forget an awesome menu beautifully executed by the chefs! Must go early as the place hops ALL the time... My second trip to the restaurant and it was as good as the first time I went. We just let the server order for us and she crushed it. Mezze platter (insane awesome), octopus, lamb and baked cheese. How can it be so good??!!! Get there! More

Made Thursday lunch reservations through Open Table--glad we did--it was packed when we left. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter. Throughout the meal, service was top notch. The menu was mouthwatering. We shared the fried zucchini appetizer. It looked like a hockey puck when it arrived, but it was so light and tasty. Excellent start! He had... More
