After having been to Grubstake three times, I'm finally prepared to write a review. If I'm being honest, that's because this is the first time I can actually REMEMBER my dining experience at Grubstake. I've only ever dined at this classy establishment between the hours of 2A and 4A, so the first two times were more than a little blurry.... More

Visited back in November of 2011. It was a weeknight. I used to enjoy coming here, but when I went with my friend- the service was terrible. Myself, my friend were the only customers in the place- as our experience went on, I began to see why. It was pointed out on the menu by my friend that they charged... More

Because I was staying at the nearby Holiday Inn Golden Gateway Hotel, I stumbled across The Grubstake Restaurant, well, diner may be more accurate although a diner doesn't serve such high quality of food. In addition to the regular items, they have an interesting selection of Portuguese dishes and I have to say, it's the reason I went back the... More

Grubstake is one of those fantastic little finds you could walk right past without even noticing! It's billed as a Portuguese American restaurant, but don't let that confuse you. They have a fantastic menu of traditional American favorites (burgers, steaks, chops, salads, chicken, etc.) with a Portuguese flair. Now, Grubstake isn't one of those fancy SF restaurants, but a quaint... More

I didnt notice this place, probably I normally pass it during the day. It opens late around 5pm and stays open till 4am. Portugees owners, with home cooked Portuguees specialities on the menu. One part of the restaurant is actually an old converted cable car. (I realized after my second visit...) I liked the burgers best, especially with the french... More

We went for dinner at this place because we read on our Rough Guide it was good to eat and they serve american breakfast in the evening. We all had a grat dine: very good food, all went perfect. At the end when we got the bill we left the tip to the waiter: checking the bill there was this... More

we walked past it by chance and decided to stay and we had a very nice dinner. Burgers were good and so were the portuguese buffalo wings. Homemade apple pie was excellent. More

This little eatery on Pine Street between Polk and Van Ness is a must for those who want good food, well prepared and at a reasonable price. It's not fancy by a long shot and the decor is what I call San Francisco funky; but the food is extraordinary - always fresh and prepared to your liking. Daily specials always... More
