This was by far the best breakfast Ive ever had! Banana granola pancakes with sausage! Omg! Great little off the beaten path kinds place run by a very laid back guy who made our experience very comfortable.Small place with only a few customers. The only let down was when we returned this morning(fri) it wasn't open! SO disappointed! Thinking he... More

Opening night was fun with great music, beer and food. This was a first visit for us but it won't be our last!

Took a visit to the Black Friar Pub several times over the summer to listen to some good local folk music. First off, the interior is very nice. It's like being in an old English pub in some small UK town. It can be crowded, but it's perfect for a nice old fashion bar setting. In the back is a... More

We ate there the last weekend of the season. The service was outstanding. (well, there was that incident about the bartender supplying mead instead of chardonnay). The beer & burgers were great, the scallops only so so. The setting was neat. If the food had been as good as the rest, it'd be a "can't miss' place.

I have to completely disagree with an earlier reviewer - fried food is not a necessity in an English pub but good beer is! We found the pub part way through our stay in Bar Harbor and were lucky enough to coincide with some live music. We sat at the bar and ate an excellent meal - the chef was... More

Nice, corner-pub atmosphere on a side street away from the packed tourist places. Healthy, tasty food in a quiet atmosphere.

The B&B has a pub that serves excellent food and drinks. Had the Lobster that was fantastic! Cozy atmosphere and reasonably priced. Service was great, too.

This is a great little pub reminiscent of an English pub. Small in scale but big on great dinner and pub fare selections. Food was very good - well prepared and attractively served. Staff was very friendly and warm to customers. A short walk from heart of downtown on a quiet side street. Make reservations as the place is small.... More

Black Friar is proud to offer fresh and unique dishes. Yes we do not have fried foods and this is by choice. There are plenty of restaurants in Bar Harbor that offer the fried food menu but not ours. Does this not make us a pub? The Friar offers an atmosphere and food choices not found anywhere else in the... More

Nice place, not real fancy, off the beaten track in fact I read some folks had trouble finding it. We went for dinner. Food was fresh and tasty. Atmosphere is nice and warm, not like some main street places. Appeared to be a fair amount of locals there which is usually a good sign. Try it, I'd say.
