This is , by far, the fanciest and most romantic spot in Townsend. It is part of the Dancing Bear Lodge, and it is quite expensive, meaning, nothing cheap on the menu. But there are lots of cheap and ultra cheap places in Townsend, so when you want to upscale it, there is really only one choice. They have a... More

There've been diners, eateries, and barbecue shacks by the Little River for decades, but nothing has ever approached the elegance and sophistication of the Dancing Bear. My husband and I had dinner on a stormy night in early March, and it was simply unparalleled in this region. It was not the crowded mayhem of Gatlinburg; it was not pretentious faux-farm... More

Two of us ate here on a week night (March, 2012), after calling that afternoon for reservations, of which they had several time choices available. It is located in the Dancing Bear Lodge, just up the hill behind the Apple Valley Store complex, and not really visible from the main road. The lodge and the few cabins near it ARE... More

Went on a friday night. The drive to townsend from gatlingburg is about 30 min depending on the traffic. Roads are curvy but well worth the trip there. There were 9 in our party. We did make reservations well in advance 3 weeks I think. The restaurant/inn is so inviting and cozy. The mantle was fabulous! We took pictures in... More

It's a bit of a drive all the way to Townsend, but dining at the Dancing Bear Restaurant is definitely worth it. I had the chicken with apple cide au jus and golden risotto. It was absolutely delicious! I followed it up with the beet cake and Bourbon ice cream. The beet cake wasn't bright red like I'd expected, and... More

We've dined at the Dancing Bear on Christmas Day for the past few years and have always enjoyed the experience. The lodge atmosphere is charming, the service is good and the food is exceptional. A tad pricey but actually a very good value for the money. Others we know that have visited the restaurant have had hit or miss reviews.... More

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Dancing Bear Restaurant during a recent stay at the Lodge. Service was attentive but allowed for a leisurely meal. We love that large parties are in the main lodge room while the porch is reserved for couples or smaller parties. The food is Southern inspired and delicious. We both had trout with shrimp... More

My husband and I ate there this evening. We had a reservation, because when we walked in last night, just hungry and looking for dinner, they were "fully committed" for the evening. So we made a reservation for 6 o'clock tonight. We had drinks, salad, entree, and dessert. The drinks were as you would expect. The salad we chose out... More
