Looks drab from the road, but inside a great pub with an old world charm. Good beer, excellent food and a roaring fire.

When you walk into Am Fuaran you're instantly transported back to a time when life was simpler...and probably much harder. This is what makes the place feel so authentic to it's surroundings. The place is family run and has real feel of the family history with it's memorobilia and photo's dotted around. We were there in March, it was windy...

We went here for an evening meal last week, and having heard some great reviews we were anticipating some mouth-watering fresh seafood delights.
We ordered squat lobsters and crab to start, which although tasty were far too small in portion size based on their £7 price tags. For mains we had smoked mackerel and scallops. The scallops were cooked to...

this is a lovely pub at Altandhu - providing good food and friendly service in the middle of nowhere (unless you live in one of the cottages scattered along the coast from Ullapool). The fish is fresh, the vegetables home grown, and the views are to die for over looking the summer isles and beach. A little pricey for pub...

We visited Altandhu on one of the wettest, windiest weeks in May and were staying just down the road from this fantastic pub. The men were really pleased because although they were having problems with delivery of the cask ale they had bottled Black Sheep. The seafood was just superb. I ate the langoustine on each of the three nights...

What a find!
In out-of-the-way Altandhu on the Achiltibuie peninsula there is this great little pub. The interior is dark and atmospheric, with lots of curiosities on the walls. The owner is friendly and chatty. She is a member of the family that have been running this pub for ages. She is now - February 2011 - providing a campsite...

A wonderful small bar serving the freshest seafood caught by sustainable methods. Lovely atmosphere in a lovely setting. Yes, not cheap - but people in an isolated community have to make a living and it costs more to have scallops caught by divers rather than dreged up by factory ships with no regard for sutainability.
