Introduced to this pub sometime ago by a group of 'elderly gentlemen' who now visit every couple of weeks from Exeter (quite a journey it has to be said). The food is excellent in the context of unpretentious pub food and very reasonably priced; the staff & service are friendly, welcoming and attentive; the atmosphere & conviviality of the regulars... Very friendly and welcoming. Prices on the blackboard menu and the additional menus on the tables were all very reasonable. We all had sausage baguettes so we can't comment widely on the food - there was quite a selection, some of which were flagged as home made. When the baguettes arrived we can only say we were shocked at the... More

We stumbled upon this place 10years ago and come here every time we come down here. I must admit if this was my local then I could not wish for a better palce. The locals always say hello and converse with you, the beer is fantastic and really great prices. The food is a great bonus as it is both... More

Pleasant enough pub with reasonably friendly staff. Good selection of real ales. However the food was okay without being exciting, though very fairly priced. If you were a vegetarian there were very few options, indeed none at all on the 'specials board', and there was only one fish dish amongst a plethora of meat ones. Although we didn't use it,... More

If you are looking for a well priced Devonshire lunch or night out the Taw River is perfect. The food is nothing more than good pub-grub but the prices are fabulous. My partner and I ate 2 large and tasty meals and had 2 drinks each and we got change from £20. The staff are friendly and the locals are... More

Visited this lovely old pub with my husband, daughter and her family for lunch to celebrate Mothering Sunday. The pub was well attended but didn't feel overcrowded and the food was delicious. This is the first time I've been for a pub lunch and had food which tasted home made - absolutely yummy. First class service, with a smile, to... More

On a recent 3 day stay in Sticklepath I ate here every day. The food was not gourmet but it was brilliant value for money, you couldn't buy a meal for over £6.25 and what you got for that was worth every penny. Good honest pub food, not trying to be gastro pub, just serving freshly made, tasty, affordable food.... More

Great pub with amazing atmosphere. The staff very professional in a friendly, welcoming way. Lots of locals and friendly banter going on. Great food and drink at affordable prices - no wonder this pub is always busy. This pub certainly deserves its success.

Excellent pub grub! Don't miss the wonderful home made pies! Don't trust on getting a table in the evenings - make sure and book or you could be disappointed!

Visited with parents, other half and a dog. Food was reasonable - chicken was a little dry for my course - was just generic pub food cooked adequately. The staff were wonderful though, really friendly and chatty. Not sure I would visit again for an evening meal, but I would definitely visit at lunchtime for a snack and a chat... More
