We stayed at Lord Howe Island for a week, and ate at several paces. The best by far was Greenback (named for the greenback turtle). Wonderful kingfish "fish and chips" done in tempura batter and rice oil, so the delicate flavours are retained. The unique thing about this place is that the chef is also a professional fisherman, so he... More

The fish was the nicest I have ever eaten. The service and value for money was very good too. More

Greenbacks seems to be a restaurant that's been setup on someone's balcony, so it is quite casual but very pleasant. We didn't have entree and both had kingfish for main (with added calimari for my partner). The kingfish had a somewhat strange squishy texture that I've since been told results from defrosting the fish too quickly. Despite that the flavour... More

The owners of Greenback Eatery also own a fishing boat and the fish on your plate was probably still swimming earlier that day. And what fish! The first night was Sunday and we both had an entrée of thinly sliced raw fish marinated in chili, olive oil and herbs. Absolutely delicious! Then we had the “Fish and three salads” for... More
