I have now eaten at Scales several times and the food has been wonderful every time. Some of my friends consider it their favorite restaurant in all of Carlisle. The smoked salmon with cream cheese reminded me of trips to the Netherlands. I immediately tried to imitate the recipe for artichoke/spinach cream soup. There are lots of interesting food choices.... This is an old school grill with waitresses who have worked here for years, but everyone is freindly and helpful. A favorite with locals, I've only had the Reuben and it was all a Reuben is supposed to be; grilled till crackly on the outside on excellent rye bread, seasoned sauerkraut, great Russian dressing, Swiss and corned beef. The whole... More

We stopped here on our way to a family event in Carlisle. The sandwiches and soups are tasty and the prices can't be beat. Good service too. It was a welcome respite from tired national chains and nasty fast food. The former train depot retains it rustic charm, and is decorated w/plenty of vintage photos. Will definitely stop again next... More

I have been eating dinner at Scalles for years whenever I come into Carlisle for pleasure and want a fast decent meal along with a great beer. The menu offers a LOT of choices, the wait staff has always been pleasant & efficient and the beer selection is FANTASTIC with a few varieties available by the pitcher. Floyd LOVES pitchers... More

My husband and I along with friends were staying at Pheasant Field B and B in Carlisle and the innkeepers suggested Scalles as an option for a quick dinner. My husband and I went the evening that we arrived in Carlisle. I ordered the soup of the day which was awesome (seafood chowder) and a hamburger. My husband ordered a... More

The busboy who was running the front counter had to get his manager to check my out-of-state drivers license, I have never had an issue before with my ID so I didn't see it as a problem. The manager subsequently rejected my two forms of ID because he couldn't "verify their authenticity", which is just a canned statement to be... More

The food overall was pretty good, maybe a tad salty, but that could just be personal preference. The service was not bad, she came over once I think. The warning is that the drink refills are not free. We had read the reviews of the place going in so we were aware, but I could see how it could catch... More

Apparently I must have made them very angry for them to recommend this place. We ate here yesterday..... The food was pretty good. 3 out of 4 of us liked our food. The portabella sandwich was pretty good. My son got Chicken Nuggets, they were way too salty for a small child (even for me too), he didn't want to... More

Scalles has great food and being a native to calisle I have given them alot of business over the years however....I was charged several extra dollars at the register for soda refills at our table. Waitress never mentioned anything about the extra charge until I asked when paying the bill. Times are tight for alot of people and I can't... More

Scalles has a little bit of everything on their menu. Great big Subs, sandwiches, salads, and comfort food. At times the restaraunt gets packed so be prepared. The take out beer section is huge so many different types of specialty and micro brews to choose from. Great place to try out a brew before you commit to buying a 6... More
