Worth stopping if you are in the area, we always do. Love the coffee and home made cake. Always busy though so get there early. Great Book Shop, with a great little cafe, what more do you need ?

I've eaten here several times as I frequently visit the book store. Always good. If I'm picky the food from the cold counter is sometimes a little cold for my taste but that's it. Last time I visited was 3 April 2013. The place was packed and all the rooms fairly full despite being quite late on. I had wanted... More

Visited When at Barter Books. It's always busy and the soups are excellent. There is always a good selection of cakes so what else is needed in a cafe?

Alnwick is full of little cafes and places to eat and I've tried all of them but this is without doubt my favourite. I love sitting with a book that I've found in there and enjoying a coffee and some food. The food is simple stuff done really really well. Can't recommend highly enough. A hidden gem and the best... I wanted to see Barter Books when visiting Alnwick. As it was lunchtime we decided to try the station cafe. The food was delicious. I had Greek Salad & my wife & mother-in-law had cheese & ham toasties.

There are lots of little rooms, each with their own character i.e. Victorian glazed tile bricks lining one room with Lloyd Loom chairs and cushions, and another one with railway carriage type banquettes. The lighting is gloomy, but it’s so atmospheric and evocative. We had cinnamon toast with our tea, beautifully presented. (In fact, it was so good that later... More

I've been a big fan of Barter Books for years. The Station Buffett is a very welcome addition. It means I can justify staying there longer. Lovely and wholesome homemade food served in really tasteful surroundings. Well done Barter.

Old Station Buildings housing a massive bookshop for bartering and a tremendous buffet! Great selection of light meals and good value. The little extras go a long way here, the rarebit is an especially favourite. Great service too. K
