Great for families with kids, etc. Food is decent, you can get healthy entrees, and portions are generous. Not the place to go if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful dining experience. It's family & student oriented, and serves that purpose well.

There's usually quite a crowd here, and the food--deli sandwiches and such--is conscientiously prepared and cheerfully served. The place is usually a rather jolly mess, as though a lot of careless children have fun.
Our first time at Elmo's (for breakfast) fell into the "okay" range. Just ate there for dinner and apart from a nice waitress, there was nothing to recommend the experience. The jambalaya was mainly rice and very little else, bearing little relation to the real dish. The burger was thin, tasteless, obviously pre-frozen and re-heated; tomatoes and lettuce were in...

Elmo's is the place you go when you are with a group: it has something for everyone. It seems very kid-friendly so it is a great choice for parents too. Nevertheless, we were a bit dissapointed given all the hype. Our eggs were good but the home fries and biscuits were dried out. Maybe that's what happens when you order...

Our family enjoyed a quaint breakfast for a very reasonable price. The omelette with avocado is fabulous and the pancakes are delicious. The staff was kind, courteous and made sure everything was to our liking. We will definitely return when we have a chance!
This is an old time diner, but with some healthy, updated twists on old classics, such as shrimp and grits, salmon cakes and home made applesauce. Great coffee and incredibly friendly service!
Our hotel desk clerk recommended this place on our first visit to Durham and we now never stay overnight without a stop there. Sunday breakfast can be a crowded wait, but SO worth it! Old time diner ambience, friendly wait staff, and vast menu of great food. Doesn't break the bank for a family of five. Parking is limited in...

Visited Elmo's Diner for the first time. It was a Saturday morning and had about a 10 minute wait. Sat at the counter, order was quickly taken by a friendly waitress. Coffee was OK, not great. Had the vegetarian southwest grits with scrambled eggs. Yum! Hubby had stuffed french toast, two eggs and bacon - ate it all and said...

Stopped by here on a trip to Duke. Staff was great, service was quick, restaurant was clean and very nice atmosphere. Good place for standard diner comfort food. Food was average, not bad by any means, just nothing amazing to report.
Nice sandwiches and relaxed atmosphere. Convenient location for cruising Ninth Street. Compared to other options in foodie heaven Durham, this restaurant is somewhat ordinary.
