You can't beat the location! Breaking New Grounds is located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth in what we call Market Square. The drinks and treats are yummy, there is indoor and outdoor seating, and if you are a local, you are bound to run into someone you know! This is a good place to meet up with friends, take...

A portsmouth institution. They roast their own coffee and it is great.
In the summer you can sit outside and they have great gellato

A great coffee shop right in the middle of the square. Great selections of coffees and great selections of sweets and baked goods. The Soy Latte and Cappucino were excellent. The cups of coffee were very good. Service came with a smile :-]

I am usually stopping by BNG at least three times per week, more in the summer when the tables outside are at a premium (they are free, just hard to get an open one). All of Portsmouth passes through Market Square and past BNG at some point. This is a favorite land mark and meeting place. Groups of regulars congregate...

What I got, in my "small" (single shot) latte was a bitter, lifeless, over-extracted shot with some very poorly steamed milk.
It made me sad.
My special lady friend's iced chai with milk wasn't much better.
Having said tha,t the place was...

Starbucks is right across the street, but I am definitely glad I chose to go here. It's right on the square; great atmosphere, the menu is a little overwhelming, but they have anything you could ever want.
