Bortell's is a take- out only...yet very unique establishment. It is located about 15 minutes outside of Ludington and just a few miles further past a fantastic scenic lookout that lies atop a hill at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant. When you enter Bortell's, the first thing you notice is a meat counter that is enclosed in glass which takes... More

We went before Labor Day and enjoyed deep fried perch and walleye outside near Lake Michigan. We went back with friends on September 9th and they were CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. What??? Kind of early to close up shop. We were disappointed. Like Jason_W said, "...they aren't anything overly special." Beth and Dennis Dewitt, Michigan More

We stayed in Ludington 10days, just down the block from Bortell's. We bought fried and fresh fish 5 times. It was always wonderful. It is well worth a trip. this is not really a restaurant. There are picnic tables where many people eat. Also, the fish is only available fried, smoked or raw. Enjoy. More

When staying in Silver Lake, we asked some of the local employees where to go to eat and most of them all agreed that we needed to check out Bortell's. It is a bit of a drive and not the easiest to find, but it is well worth it. I recommend arriving sooner than later as they tend to run... More

It's a wonderful to-go place. You view the fresh seafood as you stand in line, tell them what you want. Dinners come with fries and coleslaw. The fish is very lightly breaded and as non-greasy as you can get for fried food. We had walleye and shrimp dinners. Both were excellent. There are a few covered picnic tables outside, we... More
