The cheese / tomato sandwich was a dreampiece: huge & with excellent taste. Coffee is good. The scone was tasty as well. Service is flawless & (a plus for me), one of the friars speaks perfect French! I'll come back definitely...

I visited the Bakehouse on Thurs 3/21/13 and enjoyed everything about the monks' cozy restaurant. The hours were odd indeed: I think it opened at 8:22a and closed at 1:07p or something like that. But we made time to visit - got a 6-pk of hot cross buns (like a raisin bread that was puffy like a cinnamon roll w/yummy...

Friars' is a local bakery and cafe run by monks. They are fabulously friendly, excellent bakers and really offer a lot to the local community. Visit.

It was very good as their baked goods are........the hot cross buns are a bit heavy but the corn bread and woopie pies beat Franks

The Brothers are characters. Real Franciscans. Really do all the cooking and serving. The food servings are enourmous. The chat is always fun.
Stopped in for lunch based on the great reviews. The bread is amazing and whoopie pies did not dissapoint. Nest stop that we would have not tried otherwise - thanks
I used to live in Old Town, then moved away. Came back after five years to visit and the brothers remembered my name and my usual! Their tea is the best I've ever had, took a six pack of Whoopie Pies home to rave reviews from all who ate them, two were native Mainers, said they were the best Whoopie...
