After reading the menu and reviews, we chose this for our date-night during our weekend getaway, and it was the best choice, by far. Despite the quirky (possibly dumpy) appearance, this tiny restaurant packed a punch. We made reservations a day in advance and barely got a choice in times (5:45 or 8:45 were the available options). We took the... More

If you have not been here you need to try. It is right on the beach in an old house. The dinning area face the Gulf of Mexico and it makes for a wonderful dinner. The food was very nice and a bit up scale but like all of the Sanibel and Captiv you never really need to dress fancy... More

Extremely friendly staff.. Felt like we were dining in a fine east side Manhattan restaurant with a sunset view over the Gulf of Mexico. The rack of Lamb was beyond delicious, Death by Chocolate quite amazing. Although expensive, worth every dollar! Highly recommended.

This is a very small restaruant in Sanibel w/a view of the ocean. They only have a small amt of tables & reservations are a must. We ate here w/friends on Mother's Day, 2013. This is an expensive restaurant, even by Captive/Sanibel resort standards & while I thought it was worth it 2 yrs ago, I wasn't quite as impressed... More

very romantic. the chef is a genius. Need reservations (only about 20 tables). Right on the beach - get a table before sunset. Only complaint is they only serve wine (great list) or beer.

We made reservations for 8:15. We arrived at 8:10, and were made to wait until 8:40 to be seated with no apology offered. Others who were waiting had been offered champagne while they were waiting, but we were not offered anything. The appetizers were very good, as were the salads. Two of us ordered the filet mignon, and it was... More

We thought the food and service at this restaurant were exceptional, but the prices were very expensive. New York City prices in Southwestern Florida. Everything on Sanibel seemed expensive compared to our other travel experiences. The atmosphere is great and you have a view of the Gulf.

Reservations are a must - but the food is exceptional and the service matches the food. We were given a glass of champagne while waiting for our table to be ready

Wow !!! The food is the best, everything from the appetizers I had the Phyllo Shrimp to the main course. But the best always comes last the Classic Crème Brulee is awesome. While we waited to be seated we were invited to have a glass of wine on the beach and watch the sunset. http://www.madhatterrestaurant.com/featuredmenu.php

We saved the best until our last evening in Sanibel. The ratings in TA where encouraging and we were not disappointed. The food and ambiance were excellent. My wife and I started out with salads (both big enough to share). My spiced watermelon salad with pine nuts and feta was refreshing and uniquely different. My wife had the strawberry salad... More
