This is a great place to grab a bowl of chowder, although they also have delicious salads, etc. The atmosphere is another good reason to visit- you feel like you're on an vintage yacht from the Love Boat era. Awesome service, fun atmosphere and tasty food!

My husband and 4 year old were on vacation and this was our first stop in Monterey for the clam chowder. We were going to get it in a bread bowl and eat by the wharf but we were so hungry and tired that we wanted to go in the restaurant to eat. Then I saw the sign...NO STROLLERS, NO... More

All along the pier the resturants have hawkers, the one at the Grotto was funny and really sold us on the place. Once we got inside the rest of the staff and our waiter were friendly and really made for a good meal. We liked the fact that they discourage children in the resturant, not that we don't like kids... Several places give samples of chowder as you walk by. This was sampled earlier in the day by 2 of the wives, and they loved the chowder. So, 10 in our group went to eat. Food was good, but very high price for amount of food. They treated our group good, and did give separate bills, which we like being... More

We ate there after a good day sightseeing and wine tasting in Carmel Valley. As we walked down the wharf, we were offered all sorts of samples of clam chowder, and we tired them all. This place was the best. We went back to eat and despite the place being pretty full, we were taken care of, as guaranteed by... More

Finding a bowl of chowder is easy on Fisherman's wharf, but Old Fisherman's Grotto has one of the best. Having dinner at sunset was a treat at the Grotto with a beautiful view of the bay. We were able to be seated right away without reservations (weekday). The staff was very attentive to our needs and was quick with whatever... More

Among all the fun and entertainment on Fisherman's Wharf we found this very nice restaurant on the pier. We had a very good lunch, freshly prepared local products, seafood and artichokes. We enjoyed the food and the friendly service very much.

Myself and 3 friends took a costal motorcycle trip, and were lucky enough to have been directed to the "Old Fisherman's Grotto" by the clerk at our hotel. The food was excellent, and the local wine suggested by our server Vicki was great. The staff was attentive, and very friendly. I recommend the "Old Fisherman's Grotto" for anyone wishing a... More

It's sad but true that the actions of one employee can ruin an otherwise fine experience. We are far from wealthy, so it was an extravagance to have dinner at the Old Fisherman's Grotto, hosting my sister from Wisconsin as well as a dear friend. We had our little service dog with us (15 pound lap dog). Our server, Christine,... More

I'm usually not a fan of restaurants in tourist areas but this one proved me wrong. I was in town for a conference and the Grotto was a short walk from my hotel. Even though I was by myself, I was warmly greeted at the door by the owner Chris Shake. The wait staff was knowledgeable about the menu, the... More
