This is an attractive-looking restaurant with pretty good food, and I suspect that the overall rating most people will give it will be better than mine, but there were a few rough spots in this experience that led to my assessment. I arrived at this highly recommended restaurant about 8:30 on a Thursday evening with three tired business colleagues, and... More

We went here on a Saturday morning for brunch. The restaurant is located in a hotel in downtown Berkeley. It is a very pretty room with high ceilings, big windows and lovely decor. The brunch choices were all good. I had the Machaca (pulled pork) and eggs, and it was yummy! More

This is a challenging review to write. We had dinner at Five for Valentine's Day based on tripadvisor reviews. They offered a four course price fix menu and my sense is that price fix is not their forte. We hed been seated for quite some time before we received water or met our waiter and the remainder of the service... More

Went to Five before the theater around the corner - the restaurant offers 10 to 20 percent discount on theater tickets and deals with the before-the-show crowd frequently. That said, the maitre d' was completely overwhelmed even though at the start of the seating only three tables were occupied, waiters were standing around doing nothing, and the guests were lining... The best thing on the menu is , of course, the most expensive. The Flatiron steak ($26.00) was tender, the potatoes and sides were well prepared. The salad was excellent. The Butterscotch Pudding is wonderful. The downside of Five is the noise level which is higher than I like. I understand that dinner reservations are a must. We have also... More

In a city known for innovative cuisine, FIVE takes comfort food to a much higher level. Don't miss the incredible mac & cheese appetizer with smoked gouda. The chef's soup du jour, butternut squash was also tasty. I was also impressed with my entree - the inventive wild mushroom risotto cakes. My only regret was that I didn't have enough... More
