If you have money to spare, Kagen is a great place for Teppenyaki. The price is very high though. And they limit the amount of sashimi, etc, that you can get. So it's not quite an all-you-can-eat. But the quality is good.

A really great teppanyaki, maybe one of the best in Shanghai. I highly recommend to go for the buffet option with free flow of Kirin beer and lots of choices of meat, seafood and vegetables. Don't miss it.

The restaurant has communal tables for c. 10 people with a teppanyaki grill in the middle and a chef at each table. The place is nicely decorated and very clean. All the ingredients were very good, particularly enjoyed the seafood and the fried rice. Rmb 288 for unlimited teppanyaki, sake and soft drinks was good value as well. Would definitely... More

We found good reviews and went. We were told on arrival that they had a large group coming so we could only have the table for an hour and a half. We chose the unlimited set teppanyaki menu to include drinks for DMB 288. The place looked clean, service was very good and the choice was amazing and tasted good.... More

We live in Shanghai and there are two restaurants that we love, Lost Heaven and Kagen. Kagen is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant where the food is cooked in front of you. You pay a fixed price of 288 RMB and you can order as much food as you can eat. You can also drink as much beer and saku as... More

There's no doubt that the food is stunning. There is nothing like seeing the food being cooked in front of your own eyes and it tasting so great. We were two adults and three kids and went for two set menus and a couple of extra things which was fine for us all. However the service was surly at best... More

A couple friends and I went there for a birthday dinner! I have been in Shanghai 6 months and it was the tastiest meal I have had here yet! Great food, great service, on the pricey side but so so worth it! I will without a doubt be returning here in the very near future!

Really nice place with food of high quality. Nice decor. But the service still lack the final touch to be top-notch.

I have been to Kagen 6-7 times during the past three years, and must say I was very disappointed with their service level last time I was there to enjoy a business dinner. They used to have really great service in the past, but something has happened. This was not a coincidence, as I have experienced the same several times... More

Food was really good. The tenderloin teppanyaki was done with perfection. Couldn't ask for more. Drinks were bottomless. One thing though. The lady server removed my unfinished squid without asking. I complained to her colleague. No apologies were given. He just said never mind I will replace it. First rule of service forgotten. I have no complaints about the food... More
