We went there on the basis of TA reviews. It was a beautiful setting, lovely piano music in the background and attentive and helpful staff. The maitre 'd helped us chose local dishes....we liked 3 not so sure about the 4th!...but that was probably because we insisted on local and not what we knew we would like! it is very... More

Friends told me this is a must-go restaurant in Shanghai. Quite an enjoyable evening dining in an old mansion with piano playing (though playing Xmas song in March). The sauce of drunken chicken was set in crushed ice, and crab roe on toast was superb. However, the cold dish of marinated jelly fish did not taste as good as the... More

We visited this restaurant yesterday and had great difficulty to find it as it has no signboard and is only findable by the number. It is located in a very nice old-world villa and we had anticipited nice food. But never judge a book by its cover. Food was okay but definitely nothing special and certainly not matching the restaurants... More

Generous serves, good service. Food was ok but not as good as we had elsewhere. The smoked cod was the highlight.

The wait staff all wear traditional clothes and are there to serve excellent cuisine. A good wine list adds to the great meal. The tables are far apart and offer an airily feel to the room.

Excellent Shanghainese food, graciously served in an elegant villa. Pricey by local standards, very cheap if you're spending US dollars or euros. A great place to try traditional Shanghainese fare: the food is beautifully prepared and served, the culinary technique is extraordinary, the helpings are abundant. A great introduction to the classic Shanghai dishes. I did not have a better... More

This restaurant is located inside an old villa in the Japanese occupied section of Old Shanghai and has maintained its charm. Surrounded by security fence, the entrance to the house is on the side next to the drive way through a gate that has a guard house. It is beautifully decorated serving Shanghai specialities. Service was very attentive even though... More

The food is pretty authentic, but the price is over the top. The place is pretty heritage like, but quite difficult to find (in a small lane). It's suitable for business meetings or hosting VIPs. Must try the Smoked Fish, Crispy Sweet Eel, Chickpeas, and Grandma's Sauce Pork Belly. Delicious! But seriously, be prepared to pay (RMB 200 per head).

Our friends who lived and worked in shanghai decided to bring us to the top 5 restaurants. I understand why after eating there. We had the xiao long pao with crab roe, smoked fish, chicken in wine, crab roe with tofu, sauteed beef, simple shanghainese vegetables and everything was excellent dishes to share with good friends. The desserts were very... More
