Saturday lunch. Big bowl of gumbo. I'm not an expert on this dish, but the one here made a big, big impression. Something about that very distinct bite on the back of the tongue and the throat right after swallowing. Must be a special type of pepper that gets simmered into the mix. Sort of a joint really, but one... More

We went for lunch and enjoyed everything that we had. There is a local sausage that was used in the red beans and rice. The gumbo was very good. I look forward to going back when we're in town. More

This place is hard to find, but anyone can tell you. And Gus did give it a thumbs up on Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins. Gus knows for sure! This is just a small place to eat, drink, listen to music at night, and enjoy the beautiful town of Fairhope. The gumbo is more stew-like, and it is spicey. A bit... More

I'm from the heart of Cajun country. Acadiana country, home of crawfish, gumbos and whatever you may think of. And all I have to say is this place is not even worth the effort to park! Gumbo is more like a tomato, okra, chunky, thick stew. It was disgusting, I'm not sure why they call it gumbo. The service is... More

In Fairhope visiting friends while on vacation and I decided to try the Gumbo Shack since I had seen it featured on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives. The restaurant is a little hard to find but Fairhope is not a metropolis, so just ask someone and they will point you in the right direction. I went there with one thing on... More

I thought the food was good but a little on the spicy side. The night we were there the music was so loud you couldn't hardly think. I would recommend this to visitors that are looking for something different in downtown Fairhope. More

If you are looking for true Louisiana food, don't expect it here. The gumbo is tomato based and has a bbq flavor. The red beans and rice is very sweet. The jambalaya is also tomato based. If you are looking for cajun food avoid this place. The food is not bad, just very different. My husband and I were looking... More

lots of food for the money, order the cup the bowl is too large of serving. Too much tomato base for me, I have had better gumbo. With wife 2 bowls of gumbo and drinks with tip $30. More

We went here to watch a football game with the boys and all had high hopes. The place needs a good cleaning and that means a lot coming from a group of 25 year old men. They only have 2 TVs and the food was worse than average fast food. Even better-one of my friends is an UA grad and... More

We had been told by a number of locals that Guy's Gumbo Shack was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives," so I had to try it. I was not impressed. It was not bad, but not worth a special trip. This is more of a bar than a restaurant, in my opinion. The rice in the gumbo was crunchy from... More
