The food we had was decent, but nothing special. The decoration is very nice with old pictures and newspapers.

As I wrote in the title, we were there twice. The first time I had an Indonesian dish which was wonderful. The surroundings are nice, large room, intimate lighting, and all the photos on the walls, which I love. However, the second time, two weeks later, they must have had a staff problem, and instead of telling us, we waited,...

very much centered towards tourists although pretty quiet when we were there. The food is good as well as the service. You're shown a presentation with historic pictures of Kandy and surroundings giving it a very nice touch. Also the rest of the restaurant is packed with these black and white pictures.

I lost a day of my holiday in bed with food poisoning following an evening meal of under-cooked seer fish, yes the decor and service were great but I was sick as a parrot and would avoid at all costs!

We totally agree with the previous review as we enjoyed our dining experience at the History tremendously! The food was excellent and surprisingly good for value! We did not expect to pay so little for such good food in such wonderful ambiance.
We found out about this restaurant from Lonely Planet and decided to give it a try as we...

The previous review gives a totally false story about this impression and it seems to be based on the fact that there was a power cut. I would suggest that reviewing a restaurant during a power cut is very unfair.
My wife and ate in "The History" because it was recommended in the Rough Guide. We found it to be...

Electricity: dysfunctional, we begin dinner in complete darkness / We were moved on another floor (dancing hall) with dirty table, chairs, table cover and tiny little paper napkins...
Food: meat was raw or too cooked
Vegetables: not cooked at all...

Ambiance: we were alone, without music, because electricity wasn't good working...
