Our first visit back since a recent change in chef: this time for lunch. The menu was similar to before: a short list of starters, salads, sandwiches, and mains, with three lunch combination options. Despite an early arrival to an almost-empty restaurant, service was painfully slow: 30 minutes before first course, then another 20 minutes before main, with long waits... More

Had a catching-up dinner with girlfriends here. Vermilion has excellent food, though it's a bit on the pricey side. I opted for the beet sald, which was just divine. Both friends had steak and raved about the plate. Dessert - Nutella Cheesecake - was good, though I regret not ordering the S'more Brownie Sundae. Next time, perhaps. The waiter was... More

What more could you want than seasonal, artistically arranged food that is hand picked&hand packed? This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the DC metro area! My SO and I went there to celebrate an anniversary and I am so glad we did. The service was wonderful, the decor was nice, and the food was DELICIOUS! Also, the... More

Hubby and I were invited by a Friend for brunch here last Sunday. After our return to Alexandria, we often passed this spot, but never went in. The food was quite surprisingly good. As many readers of my reviews know, I do not give high praise lightly. If I show up with money in my hand, I expect a restaurant... More

The service is great even during peak hours.  The wait staff appears to work well together.  If you arrive early I would recommend sitting in the lounge/bar for a snack or some interesting drinks.  Try the frickles!  The fried sour pickles are delicious. The tasting menu is a great option for exploring a wide variety of items on the menu. ... More

My husband and I were in Alexandria over Easter weekend, and selected this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews. Make your reservations in advance on the weekend! We were seated upstairs next to a window in the brick-walled room, and could look down on the street activity...it was very cozy. Service was great, our server chose our wine based on... More

We had looked forward to dining here after seeing some other reviews for it in a town full of restaurant choices. We now consider it our top choice in Alexandria. Outstanding service and attention to table details by the waiters. When our first choice for a specific menu bourbon was unavailable, they brought us one "on the house." The oystwer... More

An intimate setting upstairs with a window seat for people watching made for a delightful evening. Attentive and relaxed service accompanied a very good meal, with some treats thrown in for our anniversary. A pleasant walk from our old town hotel right on the King Street strip.

A recent rainy day lunch at Vermilion convinced me that this remains one of Old Town's best restaurants. My lunch partner ordered, relished and devoured her perfectly cooked cheeseburger on what appeared to be a homemade roll. A tossed side salad accompanied the burger in place of the always good fries. I, however, chose the pimento cheese spread appetizer with... More

Very nice upstairs quiet dining with excellent lamb entree but pork 4 ways was disappointing. Excellent service.
