Description: We are proud to announce... Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd. Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.

I've been here for quick dinners, romantic nights out with my husband and long (I mean 3-hours long) dinners with a group as well. I go almost once a quarter and they NEVER let you down! I've eaten at other similarly themed restaurants around the country but no one can beat Uchi! Every meal down to the dessert is to... More

I went here with a friend in April 2012. Firstly we sat at the bar to wait for a table. We chatted to the bar tender about sake and which he would recommend. He gave us four or five free shots as tasters without any prompting, this was a good start to the night! We managed to get a seat... More

Tyson Cole gets accolades every other day. I haven't been blown over, but the food is good. My first love is Musashino, which is fresh, generous, and consistent. Tyson takes a few more chances to mix it up. Not cheap. More

Its a little on the expensive side and hard to get a table but its definitely worth a visit. If possible grab a seat at the bar to get the full experience. More

The quality of the food is very high. As a foodie, I really, really enjoyed the taste and the creative flavors in combination with others. There wasn't one thing that was not good. This is worth visiting for sure. But as with any high-end restaurant the portions are smaller than elsewhere. It is pricey and it more about the experience,... More

As of 4/24/12 there were 192 reviews of Uchi - 2.2% gave this place a failing mark (1 or 2 stars) and over 95% gave it 4 or 5 stars. The people choosing to trash the place claim they "know sushi" but I think the raw numbers prove otherwise. What's with their agenda? Putting down a James Beard award winning... More

We brought a group of 8 for dinner, ended up waiting about an hour for a table- no big deal. they have a nice space outside to sit, chat, nibble on some snack, and enjoy some drinks. the food was amazing. small plates- hot and cold. very fresh sushi. extremely imaginative food. cheap? not at all- but well worth every... Atmosphere ok;doesn't feel authenically Japanese. The sushi was good, but not spectacular. What was spectacular was the special tasting menu-it is expensive but the creativity was outstanding. Some really unique and interesting dishes that would be worth a trip back. One of the standouts was the thai-basil sorbet-it should be on the menu by itself (the chocolate with it was... More
