I have been to Ubud many times and have watched Penestanan change from a small Balinese village oozing with charm and little local warungs serving delicious food....now there is Alchemy. Sure there 's healthy food available and even a colon cleansing service ( never found that a problem in Bali) but unless you are one of the in crowd, don't... More

If you love Salad, this is the place. Alchemy is in Penestanan village about 20 minutes from Ubud center. The yellow wall with lovely decoration really invites you in. You choose 4 salad topping on top of mixed greens and the dressing for 4 USD, a little high for Bali standard but the salad comes in a big bowl. The... More

Ended up here on my first day, as my driver didn't know any other vegetarian places in Ubud. Price of salad and juice was over 100,000rp, very expensive considering it's a salad! Was a nice salad, but you only get four choices for base price. I wasn't advised by staff about daily special, and only after ordering noticed the hippies... More

When I first came across this I was really happy - but then I realised that I was in the mecca for health conscious cafes... I went with a group and firstly the staff were rude... i understand that we are westerns who after a while expect these lovely people to bend over backwards for us... but these staff members... More

by local standards, consequently frequented by superior types who look like they have a smell under their nose. I was taken by surprise at the cost of a salad and juice to take away so much that my 100,000 rp was 1500 short of the bill. I clearly couldn't be trusted to drop by with the shortfall later in the day... More

We walked from central Ubud, the last climb had no sidewalks and all the crazy and dangerous traffic left us really unsecure. Besides this and the poser yoga-hippie crowd, the salad bar is really very good! And at US$ 3,60 for a huge bowl....what a deal!! Juices seem expensive for Ubud, but a fresh coconut water full of water, for... More

I completely agree with the nearly naked yoga spirits who float thru Alchemy and yes, the atmosphere is very "poser" but the salad bar is wonderful! Come for the food, try not to let the tattoo/henna/dreads/macrame tops get in the way of some delicious fresh food!

Previous review said it all. This place is for the seen and be seen I-am-so-cool-to-do-yoga-amongst-the-rice-fields crowd. Look, I am a chef. I have travelled the world twice over. This place has no place contaminating such a spiritual, pure city like Ubud by capitalizing on a poser crowd who is willing to spend three times the amount for fruit juice as... More
