This small restaurant is by far the best we have tried in Noumea. Fair value , excellent French cuisine & great friendly service from the owner & his wife. Recommend the snails , beef fillet , mussels gratinee. Heading back again before we leave !

While the service here was not quick the breakfast menu is absolutely amazing. I recommend you stop in at least one morning and treat yourself to a fresh juice and great breakfast!
A small and even a tiny restaurant in an outlying area with eight tables and about twenty cutlery where the atmosphere is immediately warm. The owners are very welcoming and attentive. Very hearty regional cuisine with rare dishes (snails, rabbit, sweetbreads, etc.). The ratio quality,...quantity, price is unequaled on Nouméa. We will definitely come back. Oh a last thing: do not forget to book at least 2 weeks in advance!More
An authentically French meal that will be remembered We wanted a family French authentic meal and this lived up to expectations A small restaurant but large meals (we ordered to share) A great experience
Having read about the reviews, I got my hotel to pre-book for dinner a couple of weeks before I arrived in Noumea. As mentioned by other reviewers, the seating capacity is only 22 and it was a relatively cosy and small restaurant. It was a...Monday night so I was one of the only 3 tables. The lady owner greeted me warmly and so did her husband the chef. I have heard so much about their own home made foie gras and wanted to try that for entree, as well as the mussel entree dish and the prawns cooked with a certain French alcohol with rice for my mains. I asked the lady boss about the portions and she confirmed that it would be very large and so she kindly gave me a half portion of foie gras dish that comes with other condiments, prosciutto and bread which was still very filling (I cannot imagine the full portion!!!!). When I wanted to order the mussels, she suggested not as I would not be able to finish two entrees and one main. So I went without the mussels (the next table had it and it looked mouth-watering so something to go for the next time I am back!). I had the prawn mains and the number of prawns given was generous, at least 12 prawns and the alcoholic sauce that came with it was lovely but I reckon, I could not enjoy the full extent of my mains as I was fast becoming very full from the rich and creamy foie gras that I had. It was lovely and melts in your mouth but for a non regular foie gras eater, having two thick slices for myself was way to rich, plus having to eat with the bread to tone down the richness a little, which the added carbohydrate was fast filling my stomach up. I had a glass of Shiraz at the start of my meal and finished my meal with a French Green Apple alcoholic drink as a digestive and this was as much as I could fit in on my short weekend getaway gastronomic trip. Now that the foie gras is ticked off my list, I will be back to try the other dishes. Lovely place and I will be back again!More
you must book ...not many tables a very good chef and really big plates , wonderful foie gras....... just awesomed
We were personally greeted by the restaurant owners, Robert and Joselita, and warmly welcomed in and shown to our table. As the only one in my party not to speak French, they immediately made me feel at ease, attempting to speak English to me, which...was greatly appreciated. The menu, only available in French, was translated for me by my boyfriend. I'm sure anyone who doesn't speak French would be able to decipher the menu, with help from Joselita. My starter was the Crevettes - prawns with a tomato and basil dip. They were cooked perfectly, and the dip was very very tasty. It was a generous portion, which I loved. My main was the Filet de boeuf, sauce balsamique. Again, cooked to perfection. I wasn't asked how I would like my beef cooked, which just goes to show Robert is confident in his cooking, and he got it spot on. I was really impressed with the sauce as well. Robert came out from the kitchen and even told me how he made it (translated by my boyfriend) I had it with chips, which were seasoned amazingly. If I was to be really picky, I would have liked the beef with some vegetables. Feeling full, but always reserving space for dessert, I chose the Fondant au chocolat. A perfect way to end such a tasty, classic French meal. I felt the ambience of the restaurant reflected the country I was in, which is difficult to find in Noumea. This little gem is a must visit if you want a friendly French restaurant serving traditonal French food with hearty portions.More
After reading reviews, we worked out how to get the 20 Bus into the suburbs to try this for lunch. The place was simple and the chef was friendly. We asked for the plat du jour and we were pointed to the blackboard: Beef or...Fish. We both went for the sole and a glass of house wine. The restaurant was small so when the locals came in and filled up three tables, the house was almost full. It was obvious that the locals came here frequently from the interactions with the staff. When the fish arrived it was well presented. It was good, not great. The experience of the bus trip was good fun in itself so it was a good day out. The meal was actually quite expensive, don't know if I could say it was worth the journey, when we have had such good meals in town or at the beach.More
We were for the day in Noumea and found this little gem on our quest for some authentic food. I had the prawns with banana and it was to die for. Absolutely recommend this place.
This small, lovely restaurant is warm and welcoming. The owners are gorgeous, they are a couple who make every diner welcome by their personal attention. The food is rich and very French, the portions, generous. We had a lovely night out.
The couple who runs the restaurant welcomed us with warmth and gave us so much attention at the table, they were amazing. The food was out of this world - fois gras, duck, entrecote, ris de veau...everything on the menu is excellent. You can't go...wrong here. Call to reserve weeks in advance as they book fast.More
this a restaurant of traditional french cuisine of the south west of France (goose liver and staff). Positive points: - extremely generous in quantities. if you go there for lunch, skip your breakfast. if u go for dinner, skip your lunch. - super quality food....the cook is the owner of the restaurant. he is passionate of cuisine, and always receive you with a welcome drink and two slices of goose liver with their toasts (so do not order goose liver for starter). he makes his owner balsamic cream, his own goose liver... - service: at your full service. the lady is the wife of the owner, and the girl is an employee. both fantastically efficient. come around to gather a bit with you. full of positive vibes. - inventive cuisine despite the transitional menu: you may have classic beef filet rossini (with goose liver) or you may have filet of fish with clams and staff, or you may also have crispy pouch of goose liver with salad and a little shot of sweet white wine. ... - rustic decoration. negative points: - 22 persons capacity. you should book your table a bit in advance. going during the week end, book one month before, during the week, book one week before. - indoor seats only. no terrasse. no view. overall note: restaurant for gourmand and gourmets, if you want to eat diet, or eat a sandwich this is not the good place. this is the place to enjoy rich generous french food of the south west. 16/20More
We so enjoyed our lunch at La Relais de la Valle, from the minute we were greeted at the door by chef Robert we enjoyed wonderful food, wine and hospitality. It is rare that you just ENJOY going out to lunch. The restaurant is small...and quaint, but oozing with warmth from the lovely waitress Eladie, Chef and his friendly wife today. We booked a couple of days in advance as we were unable to get a dinner booking, but lunch was great. The clients were all locals but we felt comfortable and able to communicate in English. The menu was small and a blackboard offered an additional 2 specials today, tournedos with fois gras and escargot which was fantastic (and large) and the confit duck that came with french mushrooms in butter and garlic sauce was really delicious. We had the fried prawns as an entree, it was huge, and really fresh, glad we decided to share. The wine was lovely and we partook of some of the apple liquor offered after our meal. It is not often that you get good food and one of those lovely atmospheres created by people who just obviously love what they do. Loved it.More
We had the pleasure of joining Chef Robert at his restaurant La Relais de la Vallee He certainly makes you feel like you are at his home . His serving are very generous to say the least matched only by his very friendly nature. There...are only six tables but this small venue is alive and the wait staff are fantastic. The food is very rich my partners advice is to not attempt the entree, main and desert although my advise is to try it all and to hell with the waist line. All in all Robert is a great host the food is authentic and some where you must experience . make sure you book first we booked a month before our trip to Noumea.More
Oh wow, what an awesome expérience! I like great food, great company and a comfortable atmosphère. This place has it because the chef Robert and his wife are gorgeous people with an obvious passion for what they do and for making people happy. The food...is by far the best I would suggest not just in Noumea but by world standards. I have eaten in Melbourne, Rome, Paris to name a few, including in Michelin restaurants. This food was really really Good. If you are after pretense in présentation of the food, you won't find it here. If you want to pay for candles and fawning waiters, waste your money elsewhere. If you want trendy dishes with 17 décorative éléments, pas ici! But if you want top quality fois gras, amazing escargots, and gorgeous cream and chocolaté choux pastry, very good wine, people who care and a provincial feel, all for an extremely reasonable price, come here! Ps tell them Fiona from Australia recommended that you come! Pps take their advice when they tell you the entrées are large.More
