I remember eating here almost every day on two previous visits to CM because I enjoyed it so much. Granted ,it's been 5 years since my last visit but man has this place gone down-hill. The rice was cold, the spring roll was greasy and looked like it was previously frozen and mass produced and the vegetable curry contained mostly... More

We loved this restaurant! It is hot and noisy, but the food more than makes up for any negatives. My partner had a shredded pork curry which was absolutely divine. He's told me plenty of times since that we should have gone back another night and had it again, and I don't disagree. Cheap and delicious - a perfect combination.

Went here with friends as mentioned in lonely planet and near where were staying. Have to say LP underrated it - gorgeous authentic Thai food at unbelievable value. Loved it so much we went there every night afterwards! Not the most impressive of restaurants at first glance but give it a chance. Wide and varied menu with something for everyone,... More

Northern Thai cuisine at its best. THis place has been open since 1957. After 3 short weeks in Chiang Mai we wanted an authentic northern thai meal to complete our stay and his hit he spot nicely.

Aroon Rai is an amazing restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious. The green curry is to die for! They even make their own delicious ice cream and they always have mango and sticky rice ( my favorite!!!! YUM

Westerners may hesitate based on the appearance from the outside, but the food is outstanding if you can take the heat. Based on our waitresses recommend (we asked her what she would want to eat) we ordered the papaya salad, massaman curry with beef, and panang curry with noodles & chicken (we ordered a second of that one). Cheap food... More

There are a few old restaurants in Chiang Mai and Aroon Rai Restaurant is 55 years old and still going strong which tells you it does something that customers really like, namely, good food. It isn't a fancy hip place, quite the opposite. It is clean and basic and down to earth and the menu has old favourites as well... More

Aroon Rai is an institution. It's been around since 1958 and when you step inside it doesn't feel like it's changed much in that time - but in a good way. The owner talks with us and tells us about a few of the guests who have stepped through the doors. What a character. It's open and airy with circulating... More

I was feeling hungry, and the place, not fancy but filled with locals, with good smells, attracted me. You see many tables under a wide roof, without walls; on the left when entering, there is a counter of meals to go, which you can visualize before ordering. I sat down at a table, and ordered a pork curry with ginger,... More

This restaurant has been around for years - we went lunch time, and although busy, service was ok, but disappointed with food - it is a "roadside cafe" type and prices are low
