Good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nice warm atmosphere and good place for relaxed meal with an atmosphere for conversation.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Casual or special occasion. The Cafe does it all. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the service is excellent. The menu changes frequently - even the breakfast menu. I've dined here many times, and the food has always been great. If the restaurant is busy, you can wait in the cozy bar.
I visited there with a client recently for lunch. I am told normally you will have to wait in line to get a seat. Though we had gone out for an early lunch, so we were okay (though there was still a line, but a short one). Their lunch menu is fairly simple (one page), but good. They have daily... More
We've been eating at this restaurant regularly since moving to Ames, perhaps 5-10 times a year for a few years now. It's the go-to place for taking out of town guests as well as a nice place to come as a family or on a date night. They are wonderfully accommodating when we bring our toddler (the toddler/kid meals are... More
I love this place, but I don't go there to eat very often. Why? Because invariably, night or day, weekend or weekday, you have to wait a long time for a table. And that takes a lot of the pleasure out of the dining experience for me. Especially since you have to stand in a crowded hallway while you wait.... More
We had the homemade strawberry lemonade (too strong for my taste, had to dilute it a bit for a better flavor). For starters: devil eggs & the Soup of the day: ham smoke onion soup. This had flavor but it was ruined by the amount of salt in it. I could not have enough water and lemonade to wash down... More
Tired of the same ol' same ol'? Not here, the menu changes monthly. Can't find what you like this month? Come back next month! :) Impecible food presented with flare. My wife would eat there every night if she had her way. Fair prices for locally grown foods and healthy quisine. VERY cool atmosphere and ambiance. Open for breakfast, lunch,... More
I really like this restaurant, particularly when, compared to the UK, there is often a fast-food overload in the US. Food is freshly cooked and home-made with lots of local ingredients. It has a whole-foods kind of feel; very homely. I had the salmon club sandwich which was the special on the day we went - delicious. Great with proper... More
I visit Ames often and enjoy this restaurant! The atmosphere is comfortable. Not a lot of seating there is a wait at times. Limited menu but the menu does change and includes locally sourced ingredients. Everything is fresh, unique and homemade even down to the potato chips when they have them. They also have a small area with desert items... More
My son goes to school at Iowa State. I never visit him without making time for a stop at this gem of a restaurant. I have never had a meal that wasn't top notch in quality, innovative in presentation, with delicious fresh and local ingredients, and yummy to eat. Everything is wonderful here. Make sure also to sample the delicious... More
