Description: Tonic Restaurant, located in the historic Quigley’s Pharmacy building on the George Washington Campus, is the quintessential neighborhood gathering spot. Featuring American comfort food with a twist, Tonic’s menu is reminiscent of your mother’s recipes: meatloaf slowly cooked with care, homemade Mac n’ cheese, fried chicken that is both juicy and crackling’ crispy, and hamburgers that are perfectly seasoned and topped with some funky fixings. In addition to lunch and dinner, Tonic is also open for brunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Following an extensive renovation that would make Richard Lucien Quigley (founder of Quigley’s Pharmacy in 1891 and fellow GWU alumnus) proud, Tonic Restaurant has emerged as a unique space. Featuring exposed brick from the original structure and historic photographs from the GWU archives, Tonic is truly a fusion of the old and new in Foggy Bottom.

Someone described it as being 2 blocks from the Metro, so in spite of the rain we set out after our show at the Kennedy Center. I believe it was 4 blocks. Arriving after 9 p.m., the late night menu had only sandwiches. BBQ pork and salmon sandwiches weren't especially good. Tater tots were fine, but nothing different than what... More

Tonic is a great little restaurant. They are open for lunch and dinner. It has a cool old pub feel with the brick interior and selection of ales. I would eat there again. More

Tonic has become a "goto" restaurant for my family. The food is very good. The atmosphere is intimate and fun. Located on the campus of The George Washington University about two city blocks east of the Foggy Bottom Metro Station, it is convenient for dinner before a Kennedy Center performance, or when visiting your college student. The State Department, Department... More

This is a state Department employee favorite, a special place where it appears GW parents bring their kids when they are in town and just a little gem for the rest of us in the Foggy Bottom area. Third time going so I felt I owe a review. Love the very personal service, the location in the midst of GW... More

We found this restaurant whilst trying to find shelter from the rain, what a gem,the food is superb, staff very helpful , and the happy hour(1/2 PRICE)is just what the doctor ordered. A special mention for Floyd the bar manager, his local knowledge was invaluble, nothing was to much trouble. More

You can either be very good with a delicious salad or very bad with Tater Tots at Quigley's. Good food in the GW University area and a fun after-work kind of atmosphere. It's also a nice lunch place with relatively fast service. More

My daughter has spent many days/nights studying, eating tots, happy hours after tests, dinners with professors to plan graduate courses while attending GWU. We ate here 3 times during our week long stay for graduation. Good food, fun history, great wait staff. More

Great place to hang out. Staff friendly and have a good selection of beers which are different to the usual coors/bud/miller lights. Food is fresh, and typical pub food. More

A friendly bar/pub on the GWU campus. Indoor and outdoor (heated) dining from menu that is rather creative at times (ahi tuna fish tacos, tater tots with gourment dipping sauces) and a wide selections of beers both on tap and by the bottle. Can be a bit noisy with the college crowed when games are on the TVs, but such... More
