The new owners of the Bistro have got it wrong, the menu is very limited and the meals are very small. The food is ordinary while you pay resturant prices. I won't be going back any cafe in Darby street does better food.

Dined here with a table of 10 for Mother's day yesterday. We were visiting from Sydney, and thought this was the equal of any Sydney restaurant.
Great service, food and atmosphere.
Would definitely return.

Based on my previous experience dining in this restaurant, I took an important client there and sung its praises. - how wrong can I be. The menu was very limited and uninviting, the service was average, the food quality was pub grub quality and the prices were still expensive.
It started when I walked in the door and although there...

Have been here twice since it changed hands last year. Both times I was very impressed, The only negative was on one occasion an over the top loud mouth camp person was unfortunately seated not far from me. His constant banter and passes at the wait staff were slightly distracting.

I have dined at the Bistro many times, and every single time I am extremely impressed by the quality of the food and service. My husband and I dined here recently for valentines day and as usual it was an amazing experience.
This is one of the best restaurants in Newcastle if you want the whole package. The food is...

I had the absolute pleasure of dining in this restaurant. It was my wife's Grandmothers old boarding house which had been converted into a restaurant years ago. I have dined in restaurants throughout the world and been entertained by senior management of companies so the meals have been fantastic. The meal that we had at The Bistro surpassed most of...

Overpriced and old-fashioned. I moved from a capital city to Newcastle and was excited to dine at The Bistro because a lot of locals had highly rated it.
The wine list is amazing but the food is old fashioned, uninspired and expensive. One example, my husbands duck salad entree had tiny pieces of duck cooked until they resembled dry nuggests....

This restaurant is fantastic and a must for anyone visiting Newcastle. I have been here several times and it never disappoints. The food is faultless, the menu often changes, the service is probably the best in Newcastle without being stuffy and on Friday / Saturday nights they often have their own pianist.

The Bistro lived up to expectations, and its reputation of being among the finest dining in Newcastle. The scallops, bugs and king prawns on angel hair pasta was delicious, washed down with a Brokenwood semillon. The main course was angus beef fillet, and though delicious, the chef missed the 'pink' medium rare requirement, but only just. It was a superb...
