We always like to eat local when away so this was a first (and only) for us to do Thai in NZ. Due to the centre being shut off we had little choice of where to eat when in Christchurch. However, this was a great option and we were so pleased we ate here. We began with a cocktail in... More

Chinwag has unfortunately been closed yet again, I think because of earthquake problems with the Victoria st location as well as the High st one. I see they are reopening shortly close by at 145 Victoria st. Cant wait, this would be in my list of top five Christchurch restaurants and I have been there many times over the years.... More

I'm not normally one to moan ... but the experience of visiting Chinwags in ChCh city was so odious that 2 years on I feel compelled to warn fellow diners. Sadly the quakes have closed High Street but as the restaurant is apparently looking to relocate I can only imagine the rude barman (who acted as if he owned the... More

The High St restaurant was sadly closed by the February 2011 earthquake, but the Victoria St location appears to be still open. Highly original and high quality Thai / Asian fusion cuisine, good service and reasonable prices. More

When we got to the Thai restaurant we were the only ones there. We thought ,mmm; what's up with this? But, when we left the place was packed. The five of us all ordered something different and then we shared with each other. We had great variety, the food was tasty and the service was good. The restaurant was small,... More

This bar and restaurant is in a great spot in Victoria Street just down the road from Papanui Road where the main run of motels in Christchurch are. The cute bar has the best bar man behind it with a great personality and the restaurant which is separate serves delicious Thai food which is not that spicy - in fact... More

My sister & law bought some vouchers to treat a party of 4 adults out. "Food & Beverage" the voucher headline stated. But, sneaky fine print said they were only valid in the adjacent cocktail bar. Could'nt be used for the meal or wine!! Menu looked high priced, we were tiched about the voucher rip off, and happily went elsewhere... More

Everytime we're in Christchurch we love to come here for dinner. We really enjoy how the dish is set out, how we can share what each person's ordered. An all time favourite for us is the mussaman chicken and the squid dish, never seem to disappoint. More

I've read some of the other reviews on this place, and can only surmise that they have been written by people who have never: a) been to Thailand or b) been to an authentic Thai restaurant! The menu is slightly odd- to the point that it requires (apparently!) an extremely in depth explanation by the waiter at the start of... More

After 5 hours on a train this was the perfect place to go to. A local shop keeper recommended the restaurant and it was a short walk from our hotel. We sat at the bar and drank a couple of well made cocktails. These were made care and attention to detail. We snacked on some rice paper rolls, pork wontons... More
