Very old well known China Town restaurant. We walked in and had a table upstairs as they were nearly booked out. The young man who was to look after us was constantly on his mobile phone, and we took second place. The food was oily tasting and the rice was burnt on the bottom. We were rushed to leave and... We have been going to this restaurant for 34 years and it never changes! The decor remains the same and while it looks a bit tired the food is still fantastic. We always have the satay sticks and they are the best ever. Their Nasi Goreng is excellent too. This trip we also tried the Chilli Prawns and loved this... More

My daughter and I went to "A Chorus Line" and wanted a simple Chinese meal. We ended up in this place. Chicken and corn soup served in a teacup sized portion ($5). Bean curd hot pot-did they bring an entree by mistake? ($19)Was it heated in the microwave, it was dangerously hot. Fried Rice, served on an entree plate ($12!).... More

We visited this restaurant twice in 10 days while staying at Punthill Apartments close by. The menu is extensive with Malaysian/Chinese dishes. The staff are busy but friendly. We tried the laksa dishes (on the staff recommendation) the first night, then with friends the next night we had curries. All dishes are a good size and very tasty. The restaurant... More

We were taken to this restaurant by a Melbournian who has been going there for 30 years. It's not a large place but we were able to get a table just by walking in, though we were a bit early (Thursday evening). The place did fill up by the time we left. The restaurant is nothing fancy, try to get... More

My dad took me here to try 'something new' in 1972..yes..that long ago! I went down to Melbourne on a day trip last week and as usual made for the now traditional flying feast of mixed satays at this most enigmatic establishment. The grand old Lady.."Aunty Feh" was not in attendance but her son/younger brother was at the front desk... More

I have been to the Golden Orchid many times over the years with all sorts of people and we all love it. - Delicious, friendly, quick, plenty of choice, good portion sizes and a BYO in the middle of the CBD!! We go for the Malaysian rather than the Chinese dishes and have never had a bad one! Staff don't... More

This would have to be the most un -Malaysian, Malaysian restaurant I've ever been too. The fact that I needed to add Chilli to the so-called sambal to give the dish any heat is testament to how poor this place is. The satay sticks were ok; well with the exception of the satay sauce...I would be surprised if there was... More
