Have used this restaurant a few times. The Malay/Chinese food is always excellent. Very authentic and very quick polite service. Ideal when you are in a hurry. Even better it is difficult to break $30 when buying a two-course lunch with beers for two people (May 2012 prices).

What a great little place in China Town - only a few doors down from Swanston Street. Inexpensive and tasty fare. We enjoyed the Seafood Nasi Goreng and Chicken Sambal. Will definitely go back!

Had the Beef Rendang and it was fantastic the beef just fell apart, oh so tender, the rendang was flavorsome and aromatic, a very good dish. We also had the homemade dumplings these were also fantastic and tasty. The prices were very good and the service was welcoming, we have eaten here before and will eat here again when we... More

Went down to chinatown to see what all the fuss was about with the chinese new years celebrations, so we headed into Sambal Kampung to get a quick yet tasty dinner. Having recently travelled through malaysian in early 2011 the food seemed rather comparable with the real deal eaten over there. The waiting staff were prompt to serve and dishes... More

We ordered their Char Kueh Tiaw, Bak Kut Teh and Wan Tan Mee. I would say their Char Kueh Tiaw is the best, could be better than some local in m'sia. Only thing their fried Kueh Tiaw is without clam (if you like this stuff, sorry that this is not inside). Bak Kut Teh wise, soup is fragrant with Chinese... More

I'm had quite a love affair with Sambal Kampung over the last 6 months and have consistently eaten her once a week for either dinner or lunch. This place has found the sweet spot with super tasty Malaysian cuisine, perfect portions and very speedy service. An excellent place to eat solo too.

Tucked away in Little Bourke Street, Melbourne, in between Swanston and Russell is one of Melbourne true hidden gems, The Sambal Kampung Malaysian Restaurant. The interior is funky, quirky, welcoming and unpretentious. The Owner and his crew of kind attentive staff are top rate. Service is very good and value for money is fantastic! Crispy wrapped delicate Lobak roll with... More

On the way back to the hotel after going to the theatre we saw Sambal Kampung and decided to go and eat there the next day. The lunch menu had many dishes that we wanted to try so we had starters and main. Great tasting food. Went back twice more during our stay.
