Great food and friendly service. However, don't expect a late night - you'll be rudely kicked out before 11pm!

Tried both ther lunch and dinner. Excellent food - you can't be any picky on that! Presentation is good, taste is good... although the price is bit high. However, lunch is with great value - considering the food, service, taste and the price you pay. It's highly recommanded!
Have eaten at Shoya many times for lunch. The lunch time set menus provide excellent Japanese food at low prices. Ranging from around $25 to $38 for between 5 and 8 courses these are a bargain. The wine list also pretty good. You can be in and out in an hour if you have to go back to work or...

Atmosphere was alright but seriously nothing fancy and it certainly didn't feel like a fine dining place.
We paid $500 for 7 people but honestly didn't feel full or satisfied after the meal. Portions are on the small end and plating really lacked "wow" factor.
Out of the 9-10 dishes that we tried, the chocolate fondant was the highlight on...

We've been to Shoya many times and it's our choice for a high-end restaurant. Excellent service and marvellous sushi/sashimi.
This is an innovative Japanese eating house with a pleasant ambience and a selection of different options. Since it is arranged on a number of levels, it has an intimate atmosphere and you never feel as if you are in a large restaurant. We went for a sushi and sashimi experience, though there are options for Japanese barbecue and for...

We ordered one of the degustation menus and had no regrets - from the unique canapes to the wagyu steak and crab-leg tempura, and the freshest sashimi - the meal was truly memorable. The service is pretty attentive and while the prices are not frugal, the experience, and full stomachs, are well worth it.
So funny that "China town" in Melbourne has so many Japanese restaurants, but regardless, this was one of the best Japanese restaurants I've eaten at in Oz.
Yakiniku based, but plenty of sides on offer. Food was all beautiful.
I'm not a sake lover but if you were, this is the place for you. The sake menu alone is pages...

I have been there twice now. and would definitely say, its one of the best Japanese Restaurant in town. My first visit was abt 2 years back with my sis and BIL, we had cravings for BBQ but didnt know where to go , then my wife( a Japanese) suggested this place. When our arrival, we were greeted warmly and...

I have lived in Japan on and off over 20 years and have never been to a more authentic Japanese experience than at Shoya off Little Bourke Street, Melbourne. Inside is very evocative of a Japanese restaurant. On my trip to Melbourne I wanted GOOD Japanese so googled best restaurant in Melbourne and this place came up. I think the...
