First arrival gives a sense of high expectation, especially after all the raving review by Matt Preston himself. Ordered the main dish they're famous for: Xiao Long Bao and a few other dumplings. First bite was dissappointing. The rest of the meal becomes boring. Either i had a bad one or MAtt just has a different tongue. I eat dumplings... More

Went with a group of friends. There were 5 of us. We were on the very top floor. Amazing decor. We had the duck dumplings which were divine, the crab which seriously tasted like it had just been pulled out of the sea, the prawn and the amazing hot chilli sauce prk dumplings- seriously the flavours are incredible. Even the... More

Quite simply the best dumplings in Melborne and almost the world in my view. Have been to Shanghai and had authentic soup dumplings and these were as good if not better. Its a little busy place with a few little rooms out the back. They also serve many regional dishes from Sichuan which is great if like myself you enjoy... More

Went here for lunch and was packed with local business people having their lunch break. Did not have to wait long at all even if the place was quite small; we were seated at the second floor. Dumpling here is supposed to be good as per other reviews. Order noodles soup and I ended up not eating it. Considering that... More

Had the potstickler dumplings and they were ok but their xio loong bau was juicy and awesome. Service however sucks and water was not informative and had an indifferent attitude More

We have eaten at a number of dumpling restaurants in Melbourne and think Hu tong has the best. Dumplings are silken and melt in your mouth. Beautifully flavoured with a good choice. We only tried the dumplings but other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked and smelt good also. Not the cheapest dumpling restaurant but definitely good quality. Judging... More

I have always loved your fresh chili oil, prawn and pecking duck dumplings which are fantastic! Some of your dumplings aren't as good though. They aren't as fresh and not tasty. We'd prefer fresh dumplings and more menu items have pictures shown on the list to give an idea what the food looks like. The noodles are quite Shanghai like.... More

I was really looking forward to a meal at Hu tong based on all the reports I had seen and heard - we arrived at the restaurant at lunchtime prior to a meeting - I had bought a take away coffee at the market and hadn't quite finished it - they took us to a table and made a big... More
