Friends visiting Hobart were keen to go to Smolt, it had been a number of years since we had dined there. I will not wait that long again before returning. We were seated and offered menus promptly, told the specials and also given the option of having the kitchen pick a menu for us in a $50-75 price range, we... More

Smolt was highly recommended and delivered most of what was promised. The restaurant is immediately comfortable and the staff's willingness to let us sample the wines was very helpful. We started with olives and a few oysters and followed up with the venison and pork sausage pizza. Great choices - the oysters were incredibly fresh and the pizza crisp and... More

There is a good menu for dinner at Smolt. We had an early dinner, and both opted for specials. market fish of the day was whiting and flathead....it was prepared with mussels with the fish pan fried, and served on a farro and tomato broth. This was a good meal, but it was marred by a few bones in the... More

Breakfast here was well cooked and delicious. It seems Hobart know how to deliver on interesting breakfast choices. All four of us tried the specials. Spanish eggs were fantastic and the coffee was good.

Whilst preparing for a trip to Tasmania to celebrate my mother's 90th I saw a review in the Sydney Morning Herald on Smolt. The review was good. I made a mental note to try it when in Hobart. Some reviewers have mentioned service. In our case my wife had ordered lamb. Our three other main courses came out but not... More

I went here with my friends who are local and regulars. The food was delicious! However, we ordered oysters as our 'taste', then entrees, then mains. They brought our oysters out with our entrees, despite us requesting them to start. My friends main order was wrong, however this was rectified very quickly.

Went here for a spontaneous business dinner on a Wednesday night. Front of house was efficient and attentive without being overbearing. I had the arancini for entree which was a perfect starter with the right balance of richness and texture. The market fish special for main was perfectly cooked and was accompanied by baby potatoes and a ratatoullie style side... More

This is not a super-sophisticated kind of cuisine but the kind that relies on the top quality of local ingredients and puts them together with generosity and panache to create super-delicious and irresistible food to be eaten in generous quantities.

We went here for dinner and we were so impressed with the food that we returned the next morning for breakfast! Dinner was really good - hands down the tastiest gnocchi I've ever had. Breakfast was fine but nothing special. Next time I'm in Hobart I'll be back to Smolt...for dinner.

After feeling like a refugee walking from another restaurant that didn't let us book with them, Smolt, although fully booked, welcomed us into their restaurant for an early dinner. Great oysters done 3 ways. Mussels to 'die for'. Perfectly cooked pasta with the freshest seafood. Don't bother eating in a garage when you can go to Smolt who understand the... More
