There is no doubt that Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Cullen Bay is in a beautiful setting, overlooking the Marina but that is the only positive feature of dining at this restaurant. The Japanese is served as a buffet and the hot mains are only just warm. The sushi is limited and every roll has synthetic crab meat as its main... More

I only arrived to Darwin this week and decided to brave one of the only Japanese restaurants in the area and i must say i was not disappointed. While the thought of a buffet Sushi was a bit strange at first I now can see how it can really work. For the price of $29 you get a buffet of... More

On reading the reviews for this restaurant I can see how the idea of japanese buffet can seem a bit out of place. However, notwithstanding the valid criticisms, the choice of interesting flavours in sushis and other options, as much as you can eat for $29, is worth a try. Sitting outside by the marina was quite pleasant and leant... More

I am in no way a sushi expert, but I do think that room temperature is better than chilled and I also sometimes find that the flavours in sushi are too overpowering. Sakura served up a very wide variety of lovely subtle flavours and interesting combinations, we went on a Monday night and there were not a lot of people,... More

Buffet style japanese? A selection of sushi on platters, non refrigerated, placed on a plastic table. Four or five slow cookers with non traditional stews sitting beside each other, unplugged! Desert was a choice of Arnotts biscuits, Tiramisu (in a cup) or Lamingtons? Set up was pathetic, don't think they'll last. Very disapointed. Would have left, but we had made... More

Darwin has so few Japanese restaurants and it is a real pity that this one lacks any real authentic and decent Japanese food. Ordinary meal at an expensive price. Having travelled regularly to Japan I can say that Sakura lacks the authenticity to be worth the effort. Avoid. You'll get a better meal at the sushi takeaway places. More

Sakura started as table servie restaurant but has recently re-opened as a buffet. If you're not sure about sushi then it's a good option as you can try little morsels of fish and seafoood of a few varieties for about $30/person. There are a few hot dishes to try too, and some token fried things. Wouldn't reccommend if you are... More

My husband and I visited Sakura in October and thought it was very nice - good food and nice atmosphere. We returned this evening and found that it had turned into a buffet. We decided to try it an everything was terrible. So bad that we couldn't finish our plates. $70 and we are worried about food poisoning - everything... More

We thought we would check this place out on a "quiet Thursday" it was packed and busy. We should have booked to get a great table next to the water. The service was up to par a the food was awesome and replenished regularly as it was very busy. The only negative was dessert, maybe a simple large fruit platter... More

SAKURA Japanese Restaurant in Cullen Bay is new and already getting good remarks around Darwin diners. It was from" word of mouth" that we tried this restaurant. We were told that SAKURA is one of the top in dining experience. True to what were told, food was par excellence!! Presentation, quality, freshness and taste...All melting in your palate. The Marina... More
