Six of us had dinner here for a family celebration. We stepped out of a cold, wet Canberra night into a warm, cosy and welcoming environment. In spite of the fact that the restaurant was very busy, the service was excellent and friendly without being overattentive. We all had three courses with a variety of choices and all voted the... We went along based on good reviews of this restaurant hopeful that we would get a great meal. However this did not eventuate, the scallop starter was relatively tasteless and the eye fillet was tough. Everyone had a similar view of the food. it was OK but not worth the $70 per head that we paid and we did not... More

Nice surprise... a cute little rustic restaurante with a warm atmosphere, well thoguht out menue. The service was very good matched by equally well prepared food. There's soemthing homely about the place and the certainly make you feel it's all about you.

My husband and I had dinner at the Green Herring last night for our 5th Wedding Anniversary. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and as the title indicates the best eye fillets we've ever had. Will definitely be going back and recommending it to friends. Thanks again for a great night. Gemma & Mark :)

I'd never been here before but had heard good things. A nice feel to this 19th C cottage - probably one of the oldest buildings still in use in the Canberra area. The restaurant was very busy as you'd expect on a Saturday night in December but we'd arrived for 6.30 so beat the rush. I'd only booked a few... More

We had a fantastic dinner at this restaurant, sitting next to a brilliant fire on a rainy night. The low wooden beams and open fireplace really added to the atmosphere of this great litle place. The food was delicious - recommend the pork and barramundi and the service was impeccible. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening in this charming... More

My girlfriend and I both admitted we hadnt been to The Green Herring for some time, but once we left, we agreed we would be back within months! What a fantastic meal! Fabulous service - couldnt fault a thing. The service by the owner Max, was outstanding. We ordered a bottle of wine and had the bread with the olive... More

Second time around for me, having eaten a few years ago at the Green Herring during the winter. What I can remember from then is still relevant today. The room has a great feel to it, the staff are friendly, the drinks are cold and the main courses are edible – not gourmet but a reasonable standard, as is the... More

Thank you for your thorough review. We have taken all of your criticisms onboard, for example, we have removed the profiteroles from the menu until we resolve the issue and ensured that the cutlery gets a second polish after it is dried. We are extremely grateful for the time and effort you put in to provide us with the detailed... More
