One of the best meals I can remember eating anywhere in the world. Like a previous reviewer, I was a solo diner in this simple, charming basement room; I went early and enjoyed the peace. No menu, no choices to make, just settle back and savour every gorgeous mouthful they serve up. Having read some of the reviews here I... More

Came to Bergen without any idea of it being a culinary experience, but this was perfect! Similar level as Stockholm 2 star Michelin restaurant Frantzén/Lindeberg.

Colonialen does have a gourmet deli in Paradis (Yes, it means paradise!), 10 minutes south of Bergen city centre. It sells quality food; delicious homemade bread, pastries, meat, sausages and a lot more. They even have tree tables where you can enjoy the lovely food and som nice coffee.

No menu which suited me just fine, I opted for the 7 course's which changes every 2 weeks, I also went with the wine menu which is a glass chosen to compliment each course. Food was perfect and the service was second to none, explanations of every course and wine from the waiter as we went along, nothing was too... More

I love good food and there are some good restaurants in Bergen but this is the best by far. This food was better than I had experienced in the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Every dish was perfection and the wine mated to it was brilliant. The serivce is very personal and knowledgeable about both food and wine. The decor... More

Had a fantastic dinner at Colonialen last week. We had the 5 course menu and the wone packet. The wines were i perfect harmony with the food. Everything was tasty, but the cheeses were splendid. Nice atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff.

On the expensive side but great food and service. This is a place you should not miss. They did not have an English menu, but the waitress took the time to explain each dish and to answer all of our questions.

We had an amazing diner with excellent food and very very good wine. The waiters were very helpful and knowledgeable, explaining all the dishes and recommending the wines. We chose a 7 course meal and definetly it was a gastronomical experience

We ate here a few nights ago on our last night in Bergen. Thank goodness we were able to book - it was full the night before. We chose a 6 course meal without the matching wines and every course was inventive and delicious. The waiters were very knowledgable about the food and the wines. There is no wine list... More
