Such a grand cafe - elegant and lovely with delicious asparagus soup for the season. Quite a treat. Very grand decor but welcoming nonetheless. An excellent experience.

No one smiled, abrupt snooty waiters, mediocre food. Ordered soup, was told 10 minutes later there was none left, then waiter walked off! When bill came waiter abruptly informed us "service is not included". He found out when we left that yes, service certainly was NOT included.

For ambiance as well as capturing a taste of history, this cafe is unique. Where in the world can you have a pastry and tea where Stalin played chess and Hitler ate?

Went there for lunch with my friends on our final day in Vienna. Had a great time. Considering the popularity and the history, the service was very good. No snobbery was noted. Had the boiled beef there and it was very nice. It wasn't that expensive either! Recommended.

The ambience was so European! Although there was usually a line to get in, we were seated right away at a table for 2.
