We had smoked puffin, whale sashimi, whale roasted, horse tenderloin, and cod bacalao - all excellent. Also hakarl to start (a very Icelandic item), which is fine when washed down with brennervin and which you only need to try once. Cozy ambiance and great service. Highly recommend the experience!

Our driver for two days highly recommended this restaurant so our last night in town we gave it a try. Despite our driver making a reservation for us they looked at our party of six like we'd just come from the moon. Quick to capture the almighty dollar however they cleared out some locals, put together a table for six... More

We asked our cab driver to bring us to a place for fresh seafood, (we are in Iceland after all) and he dropped us off here. Not knowing what to expect we went in, were seated and checked out the menu. Much to our surprise, puffin, whale and other unusual dishes were available. We figured, what the heck, stayed for... The main reason I went here is because they serve unusual (and Icelandic) meats. The Hákarl (fermented shark) is revolting, but this is well known! The waitress even warned me before. But I tried it and survived. The smoked puffin is raw. It's quite tasty and salty but it felt strange eating raw bird. Plus I was still a little... More

I only went here once, and made the mistake of ordering the hashed fish, which was highly recommended by a reader in the local Grapevine magazine. Wow. What a weird dish. The fish, whatever it was, was "hashed" so that it was even more minced than canned tuna fish. Then it was completely covered in some sort of cheesy sauce.... More

Fantastic little restaurant with authentic Islandic cuisine. Enjoyed the ambiance as well as the diverse menu. Something for everyone at this wonderful little restaurant situated on a residential street in Reykjavik. Downside it is a bit more expensive and I wouldn't attempt going there without a reservation.

3 Frakkar is tucked away down a residential side street - but is still packed and rightly so. Make sure that you book a table and sample Icelandic specialities - like whale, puffin, reindeer pate and plokkfiskur (kind of fish pie - highy recommended) - at surprisingly affordable prices. The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff friendly and the wine relatively... More

This restaurant offers weird dishes such as smoked puffin, reindeer and raw whale sashimi, which is why we came. I can't say it is the best food I've had, but it was interesting to try at least. It was pretty expensive though. The restaurant is very tiny with tables crammed very close to each other. I don't really recommend coming... More

Most restaurants in Iceland are international, that is, they do not sell Icelandic food. But this is the closest you can get to a normal Icelandic meal. Its a very small place run by a family, Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver have been in this restaurant also. Do NOT try the whale since Icelanders DO NOT eat it ever. Whale... More

We were looking for good restaurants and this one came up in our google search. It was a little more expensive than we were hoping but the food was well worth it. We all got different meals so we could try the various offerings. Orange Ruffy, Whale and a Seafood Mixture. We also got the hering plate and puffin for... More
