Not coming here for the custard tart is like going to Egypt and not visiting the pyramids. The hype is definitely justified. Do not be deterred by the long lines you may encounter, the tarts make it all worth it. Order several and also some take-home packs!!

The typical food called "Pastel de Belem" was prepared to perfection. I really enjoyed it with a nice cappuccino with whip cream. You can try the "bolinhos de bacalhau" cod fish croquettes, but they are just average...

Nothing special and definitely not a must in Lisbon. It is expensive for what it offers.Try bougatsa in Greece,Thessaloniki especially, much better and at least 4 times larger and cheaper.

I can't believe that anyone would say you don't have to go here. I tell everyone who goes to Lisbon they have to try the famous custard pastry (Pastel de Belem). It is to Lisbon as beignets are to New Orleans. The café is kind of chaotic, but don't let that deter you. Just jump right in and order. There's... More

Their famous (established 1837) custard tarts are not to be missed when you go to Lisbon. It is close to the Belem Tower and church. Be prepared for long lines, which move quickly. Take out is best and there is a lovely park across the road with benches where you can sit and devour the tasty treats. My wife and... More

Maybe worth it if custard pastry is really your thing and you want to see what the secret is all about, but otherwise I don't see the big pull of this place. Definitely buy take away as the indoor seating area isn't so quaint or cosy, more like a plain, bare bones cafeteria.

We were looking to taste a Portuguese tart and saw the long, long line for this place so knew it would be good. We were not disappointed. I recommend getting a table rather than join the long takeaway queue. The place is huge, good service and food delicious. You must try a Portuguese tart.

It takes a while to understand how it works. You can sit if you find a free table and order directly to their staff (not use to crowds and with the bad face on). Or you can pre-order and pre-pay to take away on a quite long tourists line. Pastéis are excellent though!

This is one of the main reasons why people travel to Belem and despite the other UNESCO heritage sights, these ancient recipe custard tarts are worth the trip in themselves. The shop usually has a huge queue outside- that's mostly for takeaways. Go in the left hand side of the door through the restaurant which has 3 sections- a small... More

This is a touristic place with lots of fame, because is the old house of the famous cake. The natas are much better in lots of other places, the service is very bad, the tiles are very nice. You must visit, don't wait in the queue, seat inside and order there Very cheap
