The trip advisor reviews were good so we made a booking, but sadly the food was average. The service was slow and you were strongly encouraged to have the menu (£50/ person). we have eaten at better places in Belgium.

Very good service and good food. A nice atmosphere. Three course set menu and wine for two for 116 euros including service.
The restaurant gets extremely busy so service was slow to the point that we considered leaving. By the end of the meal we were so happy that we hadn't. My wife had the mussels (she is something of an afficionado) and declared them to be the best she had ever tasted, I had the Flemish stew and had the same...

We have often eaten at this delightful, family run restaurant. The food is excellent, the service outstanding and the atmosphere intimate. Of course we shall return.
My husband booked this as a present for us and it is definitely a place you need to book as there were no walk in places available. We chose the set 5 course menu with wine for €49 euros each and we were glad we did. The wine was always refilled and the starters delicious. Not sure if it is...

Though i would not call this the best restaurant in Ghent, I really loved the fresh food and nice service. The atmosphere was ok but could be better - not so cosy. In the end, we had a nice experience, but I don't feel the urge to go over there soon again.
we found this place trough tripadvisor, and its a good thing I called to make reservations!!!
the ambiance, the food the attention and the service were great!!! we did the 4 course menu (wich gives you two options per course) everthing was delicious!!! the lady taking care of the front of the restaurant was very professionel and attentive.

On our return visit to Ghent and the Christmas Market we went back to Valentijn - having remembered to book first - and the food was just as good as ever.
We had the fixed saturday menu and the Carpaccio of beef was melt in the mouth stuff, the soup excellent, the pheasant cooked to perfection and the Creme Brulee...

Valentijn is a cosy restaurant in a lovely old building in the center of town. The hostess makes you feel welcome and is effortlessly efficient at her job. The 4-course set menu including aperitif, wine and coffee for €53 is a good deal. The food is good old-fashioned Belgian-French cuisine. Not too fancy stuff with extravagant ingredients cluttered all over...

During a weekend at Ghent we choose this restaurant as we wanted to dine in a semi-casual atmosphere, but eat sophisticated food. This restaurant offered only a single menu, with every course having 2 choices, which is actually nice - as there is no stress of choosing between 100's of options. In addition, it guarantees quality, as the chef is...
