Good food, good location on a canal with outdoor seating, fair prices make it an excellent choice. Very relaxing since you stay until you are ready to leave and ask for the check. Upstairs has a more formal menu. More

The nice thing about Cafe de Jaren is that they have a salad bar. You don't find that often in Amsterdam. C de J also serves some wonderful soups. And, on those rare beautiful and sunny warm days they do have a terrace that overlooks a canal. Beautiful spot with good food. More

The atmosphere is the great attraction here; with a large, high ceiling interior that still offers intimacy, and a grand view towards Amstelstraat. Food is fine, and the service is marginally better than the unusually slow (sub)standard in Amsterdam. More

This is a fairly large cafe built in an old bank building. It is very spacious. There is a terrace overlooking the canal. It was a cool day when we were there for lunch but many people still chose the terrace. We had the best of both worlds with a window overlooking the terrace. We had sandwiches and wine/beer. Food... A very large interior, so usually easy to get a table inside. However, the terras seating out back, literally over the Amstel River, might have a short waiting time, especially on sunny days, but is well worth the wait as the views are spectacular. The menu is somewhat pricey, but the appetizers are very filling and can count as a... More

Despite a great location and a great bulding I will not rate it higher then this. The service is arrogant, slowand indifferent to the customers. It does have a great terrace facing the water which is great (and really busy) in summer. So if you are not in a hurry and dont mind bad service then this is a nice... More
