After walking though Siena, we got hungy and went for a place to eat. Our travel guide mentioned this place and stated it was quite good. So we went and found out for ourselves.
The restaurant is located on a piazza (square). The piazza functions as a roundabout and also offers parking space to dozens and dozens of cars, bikes...

We visited 4 years ago and had a great lunch, so we came back recently on a return visit. The service was very good and quick delivery of hot food, but our waiter this time was not real personable, even though we speak a little Italian. Everything we ordered was good and fresh - the ravioli with funghi was especially...

we were recommended this restaurant by our B&B host for 'regional food' and what a fantastic meal and entire experience this was. my bf and i split a bottle of house wine and a host of plates (ravioli with herbs, pasta with simple tomato sauce and bacon, roasted veggies and wild boar) served by friendly ricardo. we ended up having...

We were very disappointed with Papei. The idea of "market fresh" food sounded great but the reality was much different. The waiter was unprofessional and unhelpful. The food was poor at best. For example we had the "famous" pate crostini and it came out a warm pile of mush on top of an untoasted piece of stale bread. We have...

We originally went to a different restaurant but it was closed for family vacation. Some locals recommended this place, which was a little hard to find at first b/c it was tucked away in a parking lot off il Campo.
We're so glad we went there. We had great service from our waiter, Amadeus, who told us about the area...

My wife and I spent three nights in Siena with family and each of the three nights we ate at Trattoria Papei. The place is simply wonderful, everything we ordered was excellent and the staff is friendly and will remember you years later. If you are in Siena for multiple nights go here multiple times because you don't want to...

Couldn't get into our first choice, so hotel recommended this as a good safe bet. True. Nothing special, but solid and reasonably priced. They move you in and out very quickly.
We were treated very poorly at this restaurant. People around us who spoke Italian had happy friendly service from waiters, we just felt like intruders. Menu is all red meat, no fish options with one or two vegetarian. Did not enjoy the experience and would not recommend.
extremely nice ravioli and even nicer tagliata, beef cut in small stripes. Also try the carcioffi and do not forgot to take desert (nona's cake)
