Located right beside a canal on Burano island, off Venice, Il Gatto Nero provided us with a top notch seafood lunch. Just a few minutes from the main street in Burano, it's a welcome relief from the bustle although it's a busy little restaurant itself. We chatted to the maitre d as we waited for a table to become free... More

Got into the Black Cat on a rainy Sunday with no reservations! Wandered in at 12 noon and we were only the second table occupied, the first being an Italian family who were welcomed like old family. Service was impeccable as we were looked after by the grandson of the founder whose imposing painting dominates the room. He's a Muay... More

We were looking forward to dine here after seeing it at Jamie Oliver's cookbook and Anthony Bourdain's episode on its competitor Da Romano which was our first choice. Our foodie concierge persuaded us to choose Il Gatto Nero over Da Romano because that's THE place where true Venetians dine at. After facing a 1-hour vaporetto trip on a cold and... More

A second visit to this absolutely fabulous restaurant situated on the Island of Burano - so a ferry ride from Venice is required and thence a walk around the picturesque gaily painted island to build up an appetite. I imagine bookings are essential. Every dish is immaculate and devine and the choice of fish is extensive. Try the risotto and... More

23rd of December, Venice is almost deserted and Burano even more so, however I was glad that we arrived at Il Gatto Nero just after midday coz 40mins later there wasn't a free table. The service was excellent with the head waiter/owner's son taking the time to explain, in English, the few things we didn't understand on the menu. Waiting... More

I was very disappointed at the restaurant!!We were seated inside among flies trying to land on our food! The service was almost unexistent and the service charge was more than normal!! We had been there years before and certainly it was not the same!Although some people in our group were happy with the food they ordered I felt my order (spaghetti... More

When researching our recent trip to Venice, I came across the name of a restaurant mentioned in a recent series on Italian Cooking. So we made the trip to Burano, booked a table for lunch, and had the most superb fish. We were lucky. It was 'waiting room' only, but we were prepared to wait 20 mins for an outside... More

Been there 3 times during my last visits in Venezia. Take the LN vaporetto line (departure every 30mn) from Fondamenta Nuove to get there (40mn travel time). Food is absolutely great (I have strong French cuisine background) and extremely fresh. Very unfortunately service is awful for foreigners (even though we speak and understand Italian language). Don't be fooled by first... More
