I've been coming to Maxela since years and need to say that is a great restaurant. At lunch time you can get a very good business lunch including pasta, main dish and half liter of wine for around €11/12, that's a very good price for what you get. In the evening there is no course meal as for lunch and... More

The beefsteak wasn't as tender as it should be and didn't have any special taste. You would expect much more from a butcher's shop. The sausages were OK. The salad/lettuce was old and withered/shriveled, the potatoes from the oven old, hard and uneatable. Good red wine, brand from the house. All in all the food is not recommendable. Nice sitting... A very nice experience in the small back streets of Genoa. The meat was excellent. be prepared for rarer than you may expect, but the quality of the meat is excellent. The wine list is brief but strong and fairly priced. The setting is very authentic, down below the street and very comfortable. But the memory is the Genovese pesto... More

This is kind of a cool place. It has a butcher case in the front, and apparently that's where the meat comes from. My steak certainly seemed fresh enough. I have to say, though, that the service left much to be desired. Granted, I do not speak absolutely fluent Italian, but when the menu says, "tutta la carne è servita... More

My previous review needs to be changed. We had dinner twice in a two week period and within the first and second visit the restaurant changed ownership. In changing that ownership they changed the quality of meat, service, and price. I no longer can recommend this restuarant and would never go back. Here are some of the reasons-the meat has... More

We have had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant twice-6 months apart. I ordered the steak both times as it was excellent. My wife had the carpaccio of beef which was also excellent. The service was fast and friendly. I am lucky to go to Italy often and every time I am in Genoa, I will plan on going to... More

Maxela offered a very pleasant dining experience. From the moment you walk in you sense that there's something different about the restaurant. It feels like you may have accidentally walked into a butchers, with the friendly butcher standing behind the meat counter. You're quickly whisked to your seat and the butcher's image materialises into a true restaurant. The food and... More
