I read lots of good reviews and also received a personal recommendation from a friend about this place. Five of us ate there, and while everyone was quite happy, not all dishes generated the kind of enthusiasm I was expecting. That being said, nothing was disappointing. Service was great. I would definitely go back.

We chose this for our last evening in Rome and Italy and were so disappointed after eating so many great meals. We had read many good reviews and hoped this would be a good experience. All our fish dishes (for which the restaurant is known) were average to poor. We know good fish and these preparations were sub standard for... More

With all of the restaurants in Rome, it can be daunting to find a non-traditional yet authentic, unpretentious, gem in this amazing city. Osteria La Gensola is one of those restaurants. Their specialties are fish, served in amazing and unusual ways. My spaghetti with sea urchin was extraordinary as was my partner's ravioli stuffed with sea bass. We ordered a... More

Our favourite find in Rome was Osteria La Gensola, a simple family-run osteria on the cobbled Piazza della Gensola in Trastevere. Our concierge sent us here on our 3rd night (after he realised we really did want to eat where the locals do!) and we weren’t convinced at first by the seafood-heavy menu or the waiter who seemed to want... Arrived at an empty restaurant about 7ish in the evening and was asked if I had a reservation. Upon learning that I hadn't they told me I could wait two hours till they were less busy or take a table looking straight into the innards of the cashier - most unappealing. Given the hype I thought perhaps the food would... More

Our hotel recommended Osteria La Gensola and it was very nice. A little bit hard to find, but it was well worth searching out. Comprised of several small and charming rooms, Osteria La Gensola offers an intimate dining experience, great food and wine list. I was visiting my 21-year old daughter who is studying abroad in Rome, and we both... More

I had the pleasure of dining not once, but twice at La Gensola on my last visit to Rome. What a great find. The seafood here is fresh, fresh, fresh! The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. On my first visit I choose to have the tasting menu with my dining partner. This was a 5 course feast... More

In a very special neighborhood, that looks like a little village, you will find a corner of sicily in rome. with very special plates, mostly based on sea food, you will enjoy the raw seaside appetizers (i loved the octopus). You will fallen in love with the pasta (take the one with melezane and scamorza it's very special). And the... More

Our first evening found this by chance. Lovely honest food, unpretentious waiters and bustling atmosphere. Great wine list! Will certainly come back next time!

We enjoyed our meal here, but it was not our best in Rome. For something on another level, try Roscioli (for more rustic) or Antico Arco (a bit fancier).
