I am from Rome and perhaps this is my favorite restaurant in my city. The food is delicious and the price is reasonable given the high quality of the dishes. The lady who owns the place is very nice and speaks English. Don't miss the "carciofo al mattone", it's the house special and you won't be disappointed.

Having visited this restaurant fifteen years ago, I eagerly anticipated this evening's meal. We were put off by the woman who received us with the comment that Romans eat at nine but they could accommodate us (she had accepted our reservation for seventhirty the day before, so why this was now a problem was unclear), but the memory of that... I've been here twice once about 20 years ago and this time. Both times I came with a good friend who has lived in Rome for 30+ years and comes here often. I love the carcioffi al mattone, cooked between two bricks. These are not like artichokes found in America. They are not bitter and this method of preperation is... More

Evangelista was recommended by two good friends in NY, who said this was their favorite restaurant in Rome. We went there on a Saturday evening, and perhaps we were there too early, because the place was empty until about 8:45 pm. I ordered the artichoke al mattone, and it was wonderful. I had the lamb as a second, and my partner... More

We chose this from our Fodor's book and it did not dissappoint. We were the only Americans in the place, which I took as a 'plus'. The restaurant is small and reservations are essential. The menu is hand written in Italian - and our very patient waiter said 'It looks like you could use some help' and then proceeded to... More

This restaurant is one of the worst I have ever been, mostly because of the host, a woman who wants to control everything, resulting to be really annoying, and also because of the atmosphere, that is overall sad. The only value in this restaurant are the artichokes cooked between two bricks: delicious. Other than that, it was all disapponting and... More

My husband and I went to Evangelista last week on our last night in Italy (last night of our honeymoon) based on positive reviews from Fodor's. It was off the beaten path, but the reviews were so positive, that we paid for the taxi over there. The whole experience was just okay. The waiter/server were pretty unfriendly and the food... More
