Description: Set next to Avignon's magnificent Palace of the Popes, Restaurant Christian Etienne is a divine dining destination with sweeping views of the city and of the Rhone valley. Michelin-starred chef Christian Etienne is passionate about food, and his seasonal menu themed on tomatoes in summer, truffles in winter, asparagus in spring and mushrooms in autumn has been inspired by the kitchens of his mother and grandmothers. This is a sensational spot for meals with a view, and the food certainly lives up to the restaurant's stunning setting. Etienne's signature dish is the roasted lobster claws served with asparagus and a confit of fresh ginger root and sesame seeds, and the restaurant has a superb Cote du Rhone-led wine list.

Upon arrival, my husband and I realized the only options were set menus with a variety of meat and fish courses. My husband is a vegetarian and I am allergic to fish so we figured we would likely need to leave. However, after explaining the issue to the captain, he quickly responded, "what's the problem? We will substitute the meat... More

Really beautiful restaurant set in a historic atmosphere just beside the Popes' Residency. The service is more than perfect. The information they give on wines and dishes is accurate and exhaustive. The dishes are very well presented and really look like art masterpieces. The combination and emotion of tastes is the only thing that lacks, but, according to my very... More

tiny but artistically presented portions, but I was still somehow full at the end! My uncle wasn't though and he ate most of the bread. the food was innovative and delicious, I enjoyed the pamplemousse dessert despite not being a huge fan of grapefruit. the amuse-bouches at the beginning and the petit fours at the end were also a nice... Our family of 6 enjoyed an absolutely fantastic meal at this restaurant. The delightful, eponymous chef/owner was there to greet us and seat us upon entering the restaurant. The service was impeccable. The food was absolutely perfect. Fine dining does not get any better than this!

While loooking for a place to eat in Avignon, we wound up in Christian Etienne based on recommendations here in TripAdvisor and its reputation precedes. A fantastic dining experience based on 5-courses degustation menu. We were surprised by an inventive "culinarie" including a touch of so-called molecular food and traditional french cuisine. Cons: too pricey but it is worth it.... More

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel concierge worker, promising a fantastic culinary experience. so we did make reservation and took a long walk from our hotel to find it, we had to ask a few people where is it exactly, its a hidden place, and quit frankly a bit spooky to look for in the dark.
I have to say... More

Christian Etienne presents himself as the doyen of Provencal chefs, and our dinner at his restaurant was supposed to be the high point of our short break in Avignon. Alas, it wasn't. When we spend this kind of money [100 euros per person], we expect, at least, consistent pleasure occasionally interrupted by ecstasy. The ecstasy was there -- the fish... More

Nice decor, old historic building. Friendly and professional staff. My wife and I had the "Menu du Palais", a 5-course degustation menu. Good vintage Champagne served as aperitif. The first course, a foie gras poelé with a parsley cream, was really heavy and not tasty at all. We left our plates almost full. The waiter tried to offer us a... More
