Description: Restaurant Le Gaigne in Paris' fascinating Marais quarter aims to step lightly upon the earth. With a commitment to using local, fresh, organic or alternatively produced ingredients where possible, Le Gaigne wears its green credentials very gracefully indeed. Chef Mikael Gaignon is a young wonder, having worked in two Pierre Gagnaire restaurants as well as Le Pre Catalan and Le Table du Baltimore before opening this, his first restaurant as chef and patron too. The dining room has an air of elegant simplicity in tones of aubergine and pink with fresh flowers and soothing artwork. The dishes on Le Gaignes French menu change frequently, of course, but may include organic egg en cocotte with cream of spinach, carrots and celery, pan-fried seabass with lentils ravigote, and minted chocolate in moelleux. Gaignons energetic creativity is apparent in every dish. All wines are French and the service is by charming Aurelie.

The food was fantastic, recipes were fun and imaginative with a wide range of ingredients, execution of each dish was precise and skilful. One person looked after the entire front of house, from booking to seating to ordering to serving food and wine. That said we were still very well looked after, with prompt bread basket and water refills. The... More

We chose to spend our 25th anniversary at this splendid restaurant. The food was Outstanding. Beautiful presentation, the freshest ingredients and very tasty but quite complex fare. We both had the organic egg for entree and this was a delightful array of different egg components richly strewn with carpaccio and different salad items. For the main course we each had... More

We managed to book for a Friday evening in this modern and compact restaurant. It was our final evening and meal in Paris and we could not have asked for better food and service. It is a shame the scaffolding obscures the restaurant but don't be out off. We ordered from the A La Carte menus rather than the Tasting... More

Wonderful scrumptious food and a friendly lovely waitress make this a special place to be. Small floor of 10 two seating tables so get in early as many people fronted without reservations to be turned away. More

Great tiny little Paris restaurant. Make reservations well in advance as the restaurant only has about 10 tables and once filled does not turn over. You can order a la carte but the tasting menu is superb and diverse. Wine pairings are light and crisp and all French sourced. Street is currently under heavy construction so be sure to look... More

I was last here in September 2011, but have been here many times before - with my wife, with my extended family, with friends, with whatever. Le Gaigne never fails. Take your time, eat, talk to each other, talk to the people working there. Take your time. We are a couple in our 60s with friends and family, we can... More

Such an unassuming restaurant. Intimate, warm and cosy. Only room for a limited number so a reservation is a must. Ate there with my wife and it was so relaxing. The food, wine and service were all excellent. Next time we'd stay in the Marais itself and return here. Not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for and... More

Great restaurant in a perfect neighborhood. If we could, we'd take the whole block home. Incredible mixing of spices with the meat and fish dishes. For anyone that did not like the service, it is French. But this means that their was only 1 server for the entire restaurant of 10 or so tables, and she did a great job.... More

This is in the Red Michelin, no star. Well, it was OK. Mussels in saffron gelee was a bit too shalotty and saffronny, so you couldn't really taste the mussels, and while I was all right with the texture, some might be reminded of... snot. Terrine was a huge slab and another lump-- meal in itself . Good taste, but... More

Getting to the restaurant required a transfer through the dreaded Chatelet Metro station. As with every restaurant we visited during our month long stay in Paris this past Feb., the greeting was warm and friendly and when we 4 made our menu choices, the proprietress said that with the diverse selections, it might take a bit longer for the kitchen...
